Which ones are the best? Does it really matter about the brand or?

Thanks

When I need to use one, (for a few hours during a water change) I just use a plain old gym sock. (Hanes) Throw it in the wash when your done and your set. Just make sure to give it a good rinse before you use it again though.

I use the ones found on Ebay just search for "filter sock" they came in different micron size to suit your needs.

I like the eshopps ones. they consistently clog in 3-4 days. Turn inside out fairly easily and clean up well.
tried the brs ones but they are sooo thick and don't clog as quickly but i wonder if that means they let more through? The felt is so fuzzy that it's sometimes hard to get particles out of the sock.

There are felt and mesh ones as well. the mesh ones pretty much let more through and are easier to clean.

I use felt.

hope that helps...

I have about 8 filter socks that I use and change every 3-5 days then flip them inside out and use a pressure washer (car wash) to blast the gunk out, works great and usually only have to do it once a month

Hi, in my overflow box, I made a special foam block, catches most large stuff like food. At the sump I use the BRS 200 mesh sock, not the felt ones.

I have brs felt socks. They work great, I change them every couple days. I hear you about the fuzziness getting particles stuck in it. I think they are all the same. Just don't wash in detergent.
