filtration advice

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out what filtration to set up on my 55 gallon FOWLR.

In addition to live rock, what filtration system would you set up?

I'm getting a skimmer for sure- one of the aquac models.

Option A
skimmer only-(hang on back remora)- can I fit a small heater in there?

Option B
HOB skimmer and HOB fuge made from aqua clear 70- extra $75
in addition to skimmer

Option C
10 gallon Sump with fuge and skimmer- about $200 extra on top of skimmer

I know most people would probably say the fuge. However it's only 10 gallons and I'm not sure if its work the effort. I can't fit anything bigger underneath the stand.

I hear a fuge does wonders but will a tiny hang on back one be worth it. Will adding it take away a significant ammount of nitrates and phosphates? Is this fuge a good idea for FOWLR?

Any opinions welcomed,

Thanks,
Schweiz

In a similar sized tank, I had an Aqua C Remora Pro HOB skimmer, supplemented by a Marineland HOB filter, in which I ran carbon (took out the biowheel). With good flow and a decent amount of live rock, you should be fine. My water params were always spot on and the water was crystal clear. Don't overstock/overfeed and you shouldn't have problems.

Thanks... Can someone else add their thoughts? . This is my second go around with saltwater and I'm trying to do it right!

I agree with what he said. Watch nitrates and keep small stock size and quantity and HOB equipment is good enough to keep a successful 55 fowlr. My dad runs a complete reef with several fish in a 45g bow-front with great success with HOB remora and MarineLand filters.
