Filtration

'm starting a 80 gallon FOWLR tank. I cant fit a sump underneath my tank so I was curious if (2) penguin 350 hang on filters would be sufficient for med/large aggressive fish.

I plan on putting a dog face puffer, nig, lionfish and maybe 2 other fish.

I have 100pds+ of Live rock and a 2" sand bed. (4) 65w power compacts

(the stand seems to be made LIKE ikea furniture, I'm unable to remove any of the support beams and replace them w/out ruining the integrity of the stand, plus I would rather not.

thank you

is this filtration enough?

I would ditch the HOB filters and get a sump.

Those fish on the list eat alot, and produce alot of waste.

I also reccomend you get a protein skimmer.

And you should also attend that meeting^^;)

LR can be your biological filtration, but you will be doing alot more maintanance and adding additives if you really want to ditch the sump and skimmer.

Can you post pics of your stand. I cant see why a 80g tank stand wont have room for at least a 30g-40g sump.

For short-term containment (quarantine tank)....Yes

For Long-term containment (permanent display tank)....absolutely not

Oh I just re-read your post.

Ditch the Ikea stand. Buy one or have one made for the application.

An 80g tank+100lbs of rock and water will be better set on a stand that is able to take that type of punishment.

If its an ikea stand, it is most likley made out of particle wood. And if it has screws just holding the stand together I dont even reccomend an empty tank to sit on it that size.
