Well an update the fish room is close to finished need to put a counter top in and finish staining. I should be cleaning equipment and starting the water load this weekend.

They are prone for failure. Siphon break and or keeping return lines high up is best. Have seen 3 fail that were no more than 1-2 years old so I wouldnt trust it to hold back water in case of a power outage or when pumps are turned off. Some you can take apart and clean but still a big risk imo.
** Unless you are refering to the house plumbing then I have no idea as I was refering to tank plumbing !!
The pump will constantly run if there is no water to drain in the sump but the little water that is left in the pipe will trigger it on, when it gets pushed away from the float the pump will stop, but then gravity will bring it back down and then turn it back on. Endless cycle unless you keep the water in the pipe seperate from the trigger.
