finally beginning my 480g 5'x5'x30" SPS Reef Tank

I didn't at first either, but it grew on me, you get used to it because everyone and everyplace has a/c. I used to ski a lot so moving to FL was a big change.

Agreed. Maybe a 1200g display with 4x 250g surge tanks in each corner. That might keep my corals and fish happy.

Come on up! Canada is fun! -35 weather, snow angels, e-brake turns, free-ish healthcare, and best of all it teaches you to really appreciate warm weather!

Tom sorry to hear about it I was really looking forward to you getting back and starting this tank. On a good note i just set up my 55 and it looks great. I was gona wait to have you help me do the plumbing but I quess I have to do it now myself. If you need any help with the 125 I would be more than glad to help. Let me know and sorry again.

Canada might not be your best moved since you will probably register to become AP member :D. sorry Tom but my pilot is on vacation for the storm heading our way :mixed: . you can always check out Chuck live cams to calm your addictions also :lmao: . my nephew just got married back home in Vietnam and they said it will take about 1yr. for his wife to make it here. so go to my country get marry and teach her how to do husbandry :reading: i promised you will be very satisfied what they are trained to do from birth. we need you to come back and finished what you started, not the least teasing us with all those sketchup designs  .

Catherine - Sounds convincing :D

Henry - Looking forward to seeing some pics of your setup, hope it went well. I left you a message. Later

Bart - Never knew what AP stood for, show me the dark side. I will stick with Chucks setup for right now but I am already considering getting a tank for my parents place :D You know, just so that THEY can enjoy the hobby as well.

Your marriage scheme sounds interesting but its not going to help much marriage a vietnamiese girl, still isn't getting me back home. But you lead me to wonder, what are they trained to do from birth?

I want to finish what I started, unfortunately it will be stuck in the planning phase for now, eventhough I think I have over designed almost everything already. At least this gives me time to maybe shoot for a bigger tank :D . 480g is starting to sound small to me.

pcostanzo - now that's what I'm talking about

jonathan - or frag tank. Would probably be the most expensive sump of all time. Would sure look nice though.

Maybe a second matching 5x5x30 predator or octopus tank :D

that's actually not a bad idea. I have been toying with the idea of installing two tanks of like dimensions right against each other, and through the use of aquascaping and lighting effects, making it look like one tank, but having one side agressive and one side reef, with a few cross-over fish in each.

ahh your catching on to my fishing. I have thought about this for a little while now as future upgrades to my system become feasible :D . God I really do have a problem. I got the idea from the Monte Carlo aquarium that has a large reef tank infront of a much larger open water tank... You couldn't tell if the fish between the two tanks weren't so horrible incompatible.

I was thinking side-by side, with some sort of "natural" separator like a faux pillar for the home, or maybe some sort of continuation of the aquascqaping. What would it look like if you built the rockwork to meet the glass at the middle, and then continues outside of the tank with the same rock, and maybe added a waterfall so that it looked like water was flowing out of the tank and down the rock face?

John just get 1 tank the size that you would need and have a piece of glass to separate the tank into 2 sides it would look alot better then 2 tanks butted together

that's some creative thinking jonathan. Don't make me bust out some SU drawings, i'll spend the rest of the night doing nothing but that.

tanya - but then we would also have to replace our entire existing tanks, would be much more expensive. You would just make a 3 sided tank and attach it the existing display to make it seem likes its a seperated larger tank.

I saw that in a book I have. Can't remember which one. It looks cool. The wall it's built into was faced with rock. The rock inside the 2 tanks converged at the joining wall to look like it continued.

Hey Paul, I would love to know the name of that book! I was thinking the convergence could be an "atoll" rim with a deep water side (agressive) and a shallow water reef side.

That would be great... thanks Paul. I need to get some new additions to my limited library. At least I have some time to read now. Anyone have a list of must haves for large tank literature?

And some good news, I got to see my 120 with a web cam today and much to my surprise its actually not doing to bad, I have only lost 1 coral and for some reason my large gigas is dying on me eventhough the other clams are looking great This seems to be by the stress caused by the unsupervised move and reassembly and the jack *** that was watching my tank for me before. I did unforunately loss my remaining two anthias though. Never had a probelm with all three of them for over a year and I'm gone for a few weeks and they passed away. To bad.

Lets see how it fairs without my direction attention over the next year. Will post pictures later.

Tom,

You need to assemble an "A-Team" to help you get through the year-long abscence. Do you have a controller set up to email you for out-of-state conditions?

"Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire."

nope... not yet. I have the ACIII Pro in one of the many boxes just sitting at my house. I will see if someone can dig it out and get it together and setup for me.

Right now I have 2 people that I trust to look after my tank now, just made a bad judgement call on my first decision of tank keeper and it was a horrible experience, never again.

Once the stands get in my house I'm going to transfer everything into my 210 gallon tank that is just sitting around, it will allow more water volume, I can just put the skimmer in the tank and not have to worry about the sump anymore, and I can use my 3 tunzes for circulation and not have to worry about a supply pump. There will be plently of room for the fish to swim around and less things to explain and go wrong.

I am in the process on writting a manual, eventhough I don't htink its necessary. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions.

apparently there are 2 new heads on the acan and the leather was the size of a quarter when I left it. Not bad considering the stress they've been though.

It seems by these pictures that someone has traded out my nice SPS dominated tank for an LPS tank. My sister was taking the pictures and I guess she things the "squishy, wavy things" are more impressive then my acros.
