I wish I had the link to a recent thread on the exact same topic. This guy had a TDS of over 1000 and he couldn't bring it down to ) either.
He ended up contacting the manufacturer of the unit (and www.thefilterguys.biz for their advice). I don't believe he was happy with what he initially found out.
I do know that your DI resin will be extinguished much sooner with 65 TDS water passing through it in comparison to 1-4 TDS water passing through it.
If I remember correctly, he began looking into using 2 membranes. That should do the trick, you would not extinguish your DI and you should have a TDS of 0. The only problem is that you would have a very high amount of waste water in comparison.
I bought my unit from airwaterice (the name will probably get removed soon for some reason) I contacted them and they said that I should look into getting another DI. I guess both RO and DI are working good, the DI is removing about 13
You are in the same boat as most of us here in the Phoenix area with a TDS of between 550 and 1200. Your best bet is a Spectrapure Select series RO membrane followed by their MaxCap DI system.
The Select membrane is hand tested and guaranteed to be better than 98% rejection, mine is running 99.1% and has been for 6 months so far. With a removal like that you should see aRO only TDS or no more than 10 to 12 and follow that up with the MaxCap and you will get a guaranteed 17 to 18 megaohm resistivity water which is much better than an indicated 0 TDS.
There are dozens of us here in the Valley using these systems with great sucess and I have not heard any complaints.
Yes pretty much. Spectrapure uses Dow Filmtec 75 GPD membranes but goes the extra step to hand test and guarantee them unlike any other vendor. An interesting note is they fail over half of all the membranes they test for their Select series that is how stringent they are. They may test out in the 96 to 98% range but thats not satisfactory for their guaranteed performance. Remember, for every 2% you increase the membrane efficiency you DOUBLE the life of the DI resin so membrane performance is a very big deal.
