Finally did it, cardinal sin

Went to reef culture today really hoping they had the helfinch to add to my tank but they didn't. Instead I found a checkerboard wrasse and it looked really cool. I asked a few basic questions and bought it. Once I got home I read about the little guy and now I am not sure if I want to add him. I know this is the cardinal sin but hey, you have to do it at least once right?

Anyone with personal experience with this wrasse? I have a blood shrimp and plan on getting another one but I read when they get older (towards 11 inches) they may eat smaller shrimps. I don't want that to happen. Any knowledge of them killing/eating snails? I read on wet web media they will eat feather dusters, this is ALMOST enough reason to to put him in my DT but I think I could live without dusters.

Anyhow, for the time being I will put him in the sump until I decide if I really want him/compatible with what I want to do with my tank. BEAUTIFUL fish espically for the price

The larger Halichoeres (such as this one) tend to be a bit more aggressive and also tend to really like mobile inverts. Occasional snails and/or hermits are most likely to end up on the menu. Some are fine with shrimp, others are not. YMMV. If you feed enough (2-3 times/day), you'll improve those odds.

Recently came up in the reef fish forum; at least someone has had good luck with one:

if you decide not to keep him, I would take him from you. Have been looking for a colorful wrasse for my FOWLR

Scott11- I think I have decided not to keep the little guy. My brother may take him but if does not ill let you know. He is suspose to let me know tomorrow

I got huge banana wrasse in my 300 gal reef, would like to get rid of that thing if i could catch it. At 1st it was not that bad but then one day it went crazy and swooped down and took the crab anemones off my carpet anemone and has attack several crabs and snails. If i could catch it would like to get rid of it

I had a lunare wrasse, same-thing. I had to catch it with a coke bottle with garlic soaked brine.

before the bottle hit the sand bed, he was in it.
