Finally doing it! Now for the final checklist & order..

So I finally got my QT chiller. Took the 12 gallon cube down from almost 90F to a cool 74F. DT is holding at its 73-75 range, so all is a go!

The main thing left, however, is deciding what all to order when I place the order. I'm going to order via Seahorsesource since it seems to have the best forum feedback (in general) and I've spoken to them before via email about ordering. That said, I'm looking for some feedback and suggestions from current seahorse owners to see what would be 'most recommended'.

Meds? Canulas? Any other stuff on their site or in general? To quote from Queen, 'its the final countdown'! Any/all help will be greatly appreciated. :)

Edit: Forgot to specify: getting Erectus horses. 4 total, 2 male & 2 female.

Will you link your other thread to this one? This one reads like you plan on adding 2 pairs to the 12 gallon.:eek1: Your other thread mentioned a 50 gallon tank with sump.

Heh, yeah, sorry if that's confusing. The QT is the 12 gallon. The main DT (eventual/final home) is a 50 gallon tank with 20 gallon sump underneath. Don't have the link to the first thread handy offhand, but.. the main tank is up and running, stable. Has various macro algae in it (ochtodes, red bush hayi, codium. Plus chaeto & caulerpa in the sump), some soft corals (nepthea, kenya trees, some polyps, etc). Main tank has a 1/4 HP drop-in chiller hooked up to it plus a HOB skimmer. Refugium in the sump for the filter algae (on reverse photo-period from the main display).

Overall the main tank is doing great, coral are growing, copepods are spreading as well. So the main thing now is getting a 'final checklist' in order for the big order for sea horses :)

Right now I'm planning on the 2 pair of erectus. I do have a feeding station made (large abalone shell, inverted with pillar 'legs'). Frozen mysis on hand for other fish (pearly jawfish) so food is mostly taken care of minus enrichments. Right now I'm looking at this as the checklist:

Livestock: 4 Erectus
Meds: Finquel
Triple Sulpha Capsules
1cc and/or 3cc syringe
Cannulas
Furan 2

This is where I hit the block. Sound I get other stuff? Enrichments? Optional life food? No need to go overboard on the order, but if something specific is very useful, I want to get it now rather than 'rush' order it when I NEED it.

Thoughts? :)

Finquel can be hard to get a hold of and relatively expensive for something you may never use before it expires. I would probably opt for the some clove oil. Cheap, long shelf life and it works.

I would skip the Triple Sulpha since you have Furan 2 on the list. Furan 2 is a wide spectrum antibiotic and I & my customers have had better success with it than Triple Sulpha. If you have one antibiotic on hand, that can get you started if you have a sick animal and gives you time to get something else if indicated.

Misc syringes and a cannula is good to have on hand.

A good antiparasitic would also be good to have on hand. Normally Formalin is recommended but is disappearing from the hobby since the FDA changed it's safety rating. Quick Cure can work as a replacement though.

Unless you are going to be feeding live food such as adult brine shrimp you don't need enrichments.

Good deal. I'll probably check with the local vet about Formalin, though not holding out much hope on that. Will check for the Quick Cure though as the alternative. Overall though sounds pretty good and not much different from what I had. Live feedings I figure will be done later on, if/when there are fry to consider in the near future. :)
