Finally got my Potters Angel!

Well actually it will be here next Tuesday. I had all but given up on getting one from DD because they are always sold within seconds so I was actually contemplating getting a flame from the regular LA site for the last couple of weeks. I almost ordered a flame last night but decided to hold off (again :)). When I got the sneak peak email today I had a feeling tonight might be the best time being just after Christmas. To make things even more crazy I had 2 gift cards to cover the fish and the site only lets you enter one! Ended up calling in my order and was still able to grab it. The DD rep that took my order was 1st class and very helpful. The only bad thing is now I have to wait until Tuesday due to New Years but I think I can wait a little longer all things considered :)

Here's the DD pic. Sorry just a little excited

Can anyone recommend some good algae sheets. I have some spirulina brine and mysis which the DD rep said they were feeding her but she also mentioned the dried algae sheets. I also have some Formula 1 flake and NLS pellets. Any other recommended foods?

Sprung's algae sheets are pretty good. You can also just buy non flavored nori at an asian grocery store and it is basically the same thing.

Awesome looking potter's.

Congrats on getting an amazing little angelfish.
I think that these are among the most beautiful dwarf angel species. The color and intricacy of the pattern is not able to be captured my photography.

Here are a few pics of mine..

In this picture the Potter's and his best buddy the Flame angel were ganging up on my baby Mitratus Butterfly.

Ya, I bought her before they were able to get the pics up which may be how I was able to get her even with having to call in my order :).

I know that feeling all to well! I have missed some nice frags for that same reason. I hope you are able to get yours.

Thanks for the info. There are several asian markets around so I'll stop by one after work today.

Potters are beautiful do you currently have any other angels in your tank?

No other angels. The only other fish I have is a femal B/W Occelaris and I may just stop at these two fish on this tank (at least for now anyway).

Congrats on getting an amazing little angelfish.

Thanks Michael for sharing your pics and vids. I love the shot of the Potters and Flame herding the butterfly . They look like quite the odd couple! thank you as well for sharing your experience with LA and LADD on my other thread. I am very happy that I waited and was able to obtain a Centropyge from DD.

BTW, how big of a tank do you have the multiple angels in. Something for me to consider down the line.

I agree that they are tough to get a photo of. It makes you appreciate the skills of the DD photographer, he/she always gets amazing photos, and that one looks like it will be sweet. Heres the best Ive gotten of mine so far.

If I had the fish in a small cube to take the picture I would be able to take some pretty awesome photos too. Taking a pic in our aquariums presents much more of a challenge!!!

I always wondered if DD doctors or photoshops their photos.

Lighting is a huge factor. All our fish are lit from straight above in our photos. If you look at the DD image above you can see a distinct shadow, so that fish was lit from the front and up slightly by a photo light, making all the colors pop towards the front. We only get that if the fish angles its body up towards the light. Plus they probably sit there and take about 200 photos in rapid succession so that they can pick out the absolute best one and not miss any subtle movement that could give them the magic shot.

Graham- I had a Bellus Angel, Flame Angel, Potter's Angel, Regal Angel and Mitratus Butterfly in my Elos System 70 (55 gallons)

I do not recommend anyone doing this. These fish started out together in a 240 gallon, and were in the Elos tank temporarily while a new larger tank was under construction. Sadly the heater in the tank malfunctioned and killed everything. :(

But I can say that these fish never fought and seemed to enjoy eachothers company.

Good luck with you new fish

definitely. Kevin actually spoke at one of my club meetings, and he went into what actually happens there. First they are acclimated to their water under red lights only to minimize stress, them they are all quarantined for at least 2 weeks and treated for anything that they may have and are trained to eat. Then they are moved to their main holding section where they remain until they are eating well and healthy and happy enough to be deemed ready for sale. He said that some of the fish are actually in their care for 4-5 months before they are even listed for sale. They do a great job of preparing their fish for captive life in out tanks.

Wow...if only everyone did this.

A lot of it is just equipment quality as well -- when I got a DSLR my fish photos went from blurry to crisp pretty much immediately. Since I'm sure they have an even nicer camera it is probably even easier for them.
