Finally got the nerve

Ive not had the best of luck with LPS, but got the nerve up to try again since a frogspawn head was doing very well. Picked up this brain, about 5" diameter, it only being $30 didnt hurt either. Any recommendations for feeding?

Oh yeah the blue candy I got is also been doing well..forgot that one.

Trachyphyllia- doesnt Have to be fed, but will certainly grow better if it is. Mysis shrimp works well; most any coursely chopped meaty seafood will be OK though- just dont use real large pieces (over say 1 cm).

You can feed it a small amount, just so that it will sense food in the water, which will cause it to send out feeder tentacles. Then you can do the 'real' feeding. A turkey baster right down by it is probably the easiest way to go. You can also wait til night time, when they normally have their feeders out anyhow.

Cyclops-Eeze and Rotifers work as well. How much lighting do you have on the tank?

They are fairly easy not much light needed and they seem to like being on the sand bed with plenty of room to expand.

Same here, I would really think about putting it in the sand bed. Brains are one of my favorite corals, and I dont even have one, lol. Good luck there, looks like you got a sweet colored one!!

The tank has 305 watts over a 55 gal 175 MH and 130 PC. Moved it to the sand and as prescribed looks very happy. Thnaks for the input.

That's a nice piece, it actually looks like a Wellsophyllia and not a Trachyphyllia. The way to tell is to see if the bottom of the brain coral is flat or cone shaped. If it is indeed flat, then it's a Wellsophyllia.
