Finally have a large tank... 280g Deltec Custom Reef Tank

Progress:
- Hooked up the skimmer to its finally location.
- Hooked up equipment under the stand and cleaned up wiring.
- Mounted ozone and MH ballast.
- Created an acrylic mount for the pile of tubes and cables that are the RO/DI boaster pump and top off controller.
- Reprogramed Aquatroinica.
- Finally started to clean the room up.

Picture of the mount below
Not the prettiest mount ever but its easy and functional

From left to right
- Outlet to RO/DI unit.
- Boaster Pump.
- Automatic on/off switch for the pump.
- Solenoid triggered by top off float.
- Bypass of the solenoid.
- Input from source.

Tom,
Where did you come across the solenoid, auto on/off switch for your pump? Anyone got a supplier in the states??

nice progress so far! Do you like how the wavebox fits into your setup? Looks like it hides well against your corner overflow in the background.

Sorry I can't help you man, the previous owner of the tank set up the rig, I just mounted it nicely :D.

And I'm very happy with the wavebox, I'm pushing what it can do but the difference in flow is very evident, especially in the large Galaxia and Hammer corals. I don't mind the way it's positioned at all, it actually makes the tank look more symmetrical IMOA due to the large overflow box on the left side. I am going to make a bracket to cover the magnets on the outside though.

What would really get you in the loony bin is if you wore your hat with the scuba gear. Now that would be a sight. I was going to ask whether you were going BB but i see you already answered that. I personally cannot stand the BB look. Too unnatural IMO. I like your coral placement. Lotsa space for them to grow out. If you're still in London when i get there i'm inviting myself for a tank visit. i'll bring beers. It sucks that stuff there is expensive though. Looks like i'll have to can my dreams of having a tank in uni.

thank you.... update pictures to follow shortly

And also to follow soon... plans for a small propagation system that will put a 24" Solaris H4 up against a 14k 250w MH w/ electronic ballast in a luminarc mini reflector in a 24" deep tank to finally compare growth rates given equal water conditions and as close to equal flow. I have so much equipment left over now that I thought I would give it a shot while I have the time.

some update pictures, I haven't made to much headway as my girlfriend was in town but I do have a couple pictures for you. As always I have changed some coral placement since the pictures but you get the idea.

Monster Galaxia that came with the tank doing well. Wouldn't have bought the coral but it was such a good size I decided to keep it.

wow, you have done a lot in a short time, will be interesting to see how the clam on the bottom does given the 36" tank, good move with the 400's/luminarcs

thanks man, the clams seem very happy so far a the bottom. One is even partially under a ledge and seems to be doing fine. I'm hoping to get a light meter soon to see what my PAR readings are.

Update on parameters
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - down to 15-20 range and dropping steadily. Another week or two and I think it should be down to 0-5 range
Phosphate - 0
Calcium - 480
Alk - 8.4
Magnesium - 1350
pH - 7.94 - 8.14
Temp - 79.2-80.2 in the last 24 hours
Redox - has leveled off at 284
Salinity - 1.0243

All corals are holding steady and growing. Color has been slightly affected on a handful of corals but most are looking the same as in previous tank. All corals that got damaged during the move have healed and continued growing. The nitrate levels have not bothered the corals are far as I could tell. All show good polyp extension (not excessive), coloration (except for handful slightly affected) , and reasonable growth rates. The 12" of water above the corals have kept the corals from light shock due to the upgrade to 400w bulbs.

Fish are all looking good except for a homicidal six line that has taken out my radiance wrasse and 2 of the diamond head anthias. He will be removed via fish trap as soon as he swims into it. No aggression of signs of stress have been seen on any other fish

how big is your snowflake? any difficulties? I have one in a fish only tank, he is nearly blind and routinely accidently bites the clown trigger at feeding time, even when using a feeding stick

I actually just sat down from feeding him. I feed him 2 to 3 times a week using a normal aquarium claw. He always comes to the same area when I am feeding him and has been a model citizen as far as I can tell. I have had him for about 6 months now and he has never gone after a fish. And yes mine is nearly blind as well but not aggressive towards the other inhabitants at all. I do think he is intimidated by the aggressive water movement in the tank though but seems happy enough to deal with it.

oh and he grew very quickly as well. I got him when he was about 6" and now he is around 10" to 12" easy. Not the most active animal but a great contrast to everything else in the tank.

so I got my aquatronica web interface working today and what a piece of crap compared to what your controller's interface looks like. I wasn't expecting much but was still unimpressed.

I have a little experience with web design and a lot of graphic design work and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how I can create a custom web interface that uses the values off the aquatronica?

Any advice welcome... hook it up boys, I know a few people out there know how to do this kind of work.

Update

Today I hook up the second pH probe for the tank (the other is on the calcium reactor). Also tried to hook up the aquatronica ethernet adapter with hardly any luck and the one time it worked it was very slow and honestly wasn't very appealing anyways. Giving it another shot tomorrow. I also fixed my RO/DI system by getting a new solenoid that could handle the incoming water pressure.

I'm in the process of removing my homicidal six line and will be removing about 50 pounds of rock fairly soon and putting in another 20 or so pounds of aragonite sand to get a better looking SSB.

Tomorrow I will have some time to work on a second wave box that isn't currently working and I will work on the flow to see if I can improve it (not that it's necessary but I'm kinda bored). I am also considering removing significantly more rock from the tank.

I will hopefully take some pictures tomorrow to document my update.

regarding the snowflake, do you plan to leave him in there when he reaches adult size? they get pretty big and can do some rearranging of the landscape/corals
