Finally have a large tank... 280g Deltec Custom Reef Tank

Thanks you very much Chuck... I'll play with it more tomorrow so I'm sure I'll have plenty of pictures to share around. Can't wait to use it in Egypt... going in July for almost 2 weeks and I can't wait.

so its been a long long time since I've posted. Time for an update!

Enjoy and let me know what you think. The tank is now 1 year and 2 months old.

This is what it started as;

And a miserable picture of the snowflake eel on the sand. He wasn't being very cooperative today.

Thats quite an outstanding reef you have developed. Excellent job. I really enjoy the mix of lyretails and redstripes (Im assuming). Very nice fish selection.

Thanks Joe... its been great watching it grow but it seems that I will have to break it down in 2 months or so as I'm moving back to the states. I really enjoy the mix of anthias as well and you were spot on with the identification. Thanks for the comment.

Skimmer is doing great even though I'm still not pulling out close to what I would hope, still only about a pint a week. After discussing it with Anton and sending him some pictures he says it must be due to something in my water that is having a adverse effect on surface tension... i.e. making it produce hardly any skim mate while building up a relatively thick neck turd. I can't possible imagine what and have tried trouble shooting anything I can come up with over the last few weeks. I dosed some zeoeym in an attempt to boost skim mate production with zero effect which is very odd. Furthermore since the second dose my nice head of pulsing zenia has almost completely died away even though there was no drop in pH and nothing else in the tank was affected.

Nope. I stopped all dosing about 4 months ago and that was only trace elements. I am running a sulfur denitrifier but I have run it on and off the tank since I set it up and never noticed a notable difference in skim mate production.

Very nice. Is that an Emperor mid-morph? Are you just going to sell everything or try and ship it all back?

Its a majestic angel out in full force. I got him with the tank and he has been doing great since day 1 without much coral munching.

I have to sell everything which is heartbreaking. I am trying to find someone to buy the entire setup but the looks increasingly unlikely.

Cheers,
Tom

Hi Tom - when you update, you updates....GREAT fishes selection and I can see the tank is doing great!!

Too bad about your move back to the US. You shipping the tank back with you?

Thanks Ed. I'll be getting a bigger and better setup when I get to the US, looking forward to a new setup.

I took some top down pictures today. Some pictures came out ok so I thought I would share. A comparison to the pictures higher on the page gives you a good idea of growth. Unfortunately the colors are a little washed out.

This encrusting monti has been growing quickly lately. Unfortunately the picture is a little out of focus.

I'm sure you will missed it once you tear it down when you move but going BIGGER is something to look forward to when you get back

man your tank is looking great , ya sorry to hear that you are moving to the us again , but hey things just get better the 2nd time around. i have a question ya for i have a sps reef in my 150 and going to be getting a deltec ap 851 and it was either that one or the TS 1060 so i sent with the 851. and I also noticed that you have red algae too like me, I found the only way to get rid of it was phosban, now im running the fauna marine and its seems that im getting red cynao and the red algae is coming back. i didnt have it with phos ban thou.

where about are you moving too in the US if you dont mind me asking ...

I had the AP 851 for a while and its a great skimmer, can't go all that wrong with Deltec equipment. This is the first that I have had any algae issues in this tank and its due to the fact that I was running the tank BB for about 10 months. I added sand about a month ago and am very happy with the way things look now.

I'm moving to Orlando and can't wait to be back in the Sunshine state.

I'm pretty crap at id myself, I have to start working on that.

Thanks for the continuing complements. I have some more pictures as I was bored today.
