Finally Upgraded-Pics Included!!!

I had the same problem. I was using a Mag9, a 20g long sump, and one set of baffles. I replaced the Mag9 w/ a Mag7 and now the Mag9 is on a closed loop. No more bubbles but I'm still wanting a bit more flow. I'm trying SEIOs just now but I think I may eventually upgrade the closed loop to a Mag12 or maybe even a Mag18.

I'm not real fond of the sock. I try to minimize the number of potential failure points to the system and I consider that to be one such point.

Yes, you have to keep a close eye on them to make sure they are changed out before getting so dirty they no longer allow water to pass through. I had a small incident qwhen I first started using them and ended up with 20gallons on the floor and an almost empty sump. I have a pretty good system now, and change them out once every 5 days and everything seem to run smooth.

I was planning on bumping up my flow with an additional mag12 closed loop, but as I mentioned earlier I went with a wavemaker and 3 MJ1200's. The wavemaker is set to a 30second pulse ( changable from 30 seconds - 3 minutes ) and uses a 6 preset cycle. I like how it is working, even though it put powerheads back in the system.

Well,

I have been trying all day and most of the evening to get some decent shots, and am having a VERY hard time getting anything worth posting. I find it very hard to get good photo results with the 20k lamps

Give me some time and I promise I will post some!

I am beginning to re-think the decission of using the 20k's in general, the coloration of my corals are great,,but I am starting to see the slower growth rates people have talked so much about. Perhaps I will give the Hamilton 14k's a try when its time to switch out, or possibly even go back to 10K and just install some additional VHO's for supplimentation.

Only time will tell.

Anyhow,
I will try to get some decent shots tomorrow ( when my batteries are re-charged ) I used them up today with all the defects I took.

Sorry for the wait!

Back in business!

Back in business!

After 3 1/2 days without power during Ivan, I am finally back to a stable situation. I ran 1 MJ1200 during the outtage 30minutes on 30 minutes off, during the entire time with the help of two 12volt batteries and a 400watt power inverter. I will be getting a generator VERY soon, living out in the sticks has its pros,,but there are some avoidable cons that I need to fix in the electrical department.

Anyhow, I did lose a couple things.

LOST:
Blue tip Acro
Green Acro

Damaged ( severly )
Purple Rim Cap.

Damaged ( minor )
Pink/orange Cap
ORA Chips

The Chips & Pink cap are recovering very well, and I see that there is still a portion of the purple rim that is living ( and will eventually encrust over the exposed skeleton again in time )

All in all it could have been much worse, I am thankfull that I made it through it with what little damage I did have.

Here is a updated shot of the system taken last night.

Forgot to mention,

I am really loving the ASM G1-X I installed in the sump a few weeks ago, probally the best skimmer I have owned/seen in use.

Hiya Leviathan

I saw this post weeks ago and thought your tank looked fantastic.

Sorry to hear about your set-back. This hurricane season has been unreal. :(

I hope your damaged corals recover fast, and I look forward to seeing new pics! :)

Thanks everyone!

melev, yes I was getting very worried about my squammy around the second day, he wasnt looking to hot. Thankfully he seems to be doing great again, I will be curious how fast his growth ring starts to enlarge after this ordeal.

Algae Blenny,

The squamossa is aprox 7", I have had it since it was just over 1"

Thanks for the compliments!

stlrams88,

No Thoses are 2-250watt 20K XM's SE & 2-95watt VHO super actinic URI's you see lighting the display.
