Finally Upgraded-Pics Included!!!

Not a set back just a "Mr. Everything Has To Be Perfect" thingy!

Not a set back just a "Mr. Everything Has To Be Perfect" thingy!

I know I said I would have a picture of it all back together by tonight, and I promise I had intended on it. However I am a perfectionist, and weither thats a good or bad thing I just refuse to take a picture with it as cloudy as it still is. So give me a day or two and I will make good on my promise once things start to clear up a bit more.

LowRez Full Shot

LowRez Full Shot

Sorry,
Was having hosting problems. This picture is low rez since the tank is still a bit on the cloudy side. I will take more pictures ( including close-ups once it clears completely ) at a higher res.

So did you ever figure out your mysterious sps decline problem?

There is no doubt in my mind that it was the fluctuating water chemistry caused by the last 2 batches of Oceanic I used.

I kept a bit of Oceanic and had run test on it compared to the IO, and EVERY test on the Alk would range from 2.5-4.0 where as the IO had a stable 4.0,,the Ph of the Oceanic was between 7.6-8.4 The IO was betwen 8.2-8.3 The PO4 of the Oceanic was consistantly over .02 ,,and U/D using IO.

I used the same make up water ( RO-DI reading 0-TDS ) an identical MJ for flow, and yet there was huge differences in the reading.

So,

With the Alk/Ph in such fluctuation and such a high PO4 reading to start, I am actually suprised I didnt have more problems than I did.

A couple pictures!

A couple pictures!

Here are a few pictures I took last night of a few things in the tank. Things are going great and I am finally breathing a sigh of satisfaction.

Here is a shot of one of the frags I am most happy about. I have had it since the day after I switched back to IO, when I got it it was solid dark brown, now as you can see it changed to a very light tan, with a nice purple rim. Growing like crazy.

Same frag, Gobies Front Porch!

Same frag, Gobies Front Porch!

Here is my almost 4 year old Watchman, using the same frag as his porch! Any one have any idea of the life span of theses little guys. With having him for 4 years now I am concerned that his time is running out. I am pretty sure he was a juv. when I got him.
I hate to think of him not being in the tank. Before I get ahead of myself, heres the picture.

He came out after the previous shot to see what I was doing!

I will take a few more shots ( hopefully a decent full shot tonight )

I have been VERY happy with the outcome of the total salt switch out. I have changed a few things also to my routine. I no longer do monthly 15 gallon water changes, instead I am doing 10 gallons evey 2 weeks. I also am dosing 2.5ml of B-ionic nightly ( this will increase as the demand increases ) and have dropped my SG from 1.026 to 1.024.

All in all I have seen nothing but positive effects from theses changes, so I will continue to do as I am.

Not even sure if anyone is paying attention to my thread anymore, on the off chance there is EVERYTHINGS doing so much better. The frags I have are starting to grow like weeds and have great colors coming out.

I will be adding a few new frags now that I am confident that the problem is over.

Here is a full shot from this evening, it looks bare but this as we all know is a slow process ( especially with an SPS dominated system ) and I am in no hurry.

You know I'm subscribed to your thread. Is that good enough? ;)

Your clam looks good. I'd love to see a current closeup.

Chris,
glad to hear your tank is doing much better.I have always loved the aquascaping of this tank as well. Just cause you havent necessarily been inundated with posts doesnt mean we're not here.....
I just didnt have anything worthwhile to post up that wouldnt come off sounding like I was trying out for most blatant cheer leader award...

Keep posting the pics up, frags or not.

Nick

No worries Chris. I'm in the midst of dealing with an RTN issue in my tank, and its frustrating when you dont know whats going on, why things are doing what they are doing, etc...especially when you've put all this time, energy, and money into the tank...
I've been there before, I'd bet money Marc's been there....
I'm just glad you got things figured out and you're on the upswing.
This thread and several others like it have been inspirational, and full of information which helped me get my tank up and running. And as soon as this RTN issue is taken care of, (looks like the worst has passed), things will be looking up in my tank too.

So I really owe you thanks.

Nick

maxxII,

I truely hope you get to the root of your problem as well and get back on top of things. I agree it can be VERY frustrating sometime, but this also makes it a very rewarding hobby when things are under control.

If I can help in any way please let me know.

Chris,
I appreciate the offer of help. The LFS had a shipment of ocean aquacultured Walt Smith corals and I bought several, including three small (2 inch diameter) table acros. I noticed RTN on two of them and fragged them as far ahead of the RTN as possible. I think I've been able to save one of the corals, but one doesnt give me much hope....I'm left with three maybe four 1/8th inch frags of what used to be a gorgeous light green table....maybe one of them will make it and I'll end up growing the colony back...
I havent noticed RTN on any other colonies, just those two, and really only the light green one after all the fragging was said and done...
If you feel like it, here is a link to a thread about my set up....

My aquascaping isnt as pretty as yours...but then again, I've got different rocks too...

I'm feeling better about the tank now....
I need to post up some new pics now that my clean up crew has dealt with the algea....

Any updates?

Nick

As a matter of fact, I added 4 new frags last week. I was going to update with some new pictures next week.

Also,

I am going to ditch the MaxiJets and add 2 Seio 820 next week in conjunction with my mag12 return.

I have heard nothing but good things about them, and they are a much more cost efficent solution to what Tunze has to offer IMHO.

Just give me a day or so for some new pics.

Chris

Glad to hear you're moving forward Chris!
I've also heard good things about the Seio pumps. I dont think they have a timer/wavemaker out for these yet, and think these arent quite as bulletproof as the Streams. But as far as I can tell they are a good product. Cant wait to see the new pics.

Nick

Why would you want to upgrade a 75 to a 90?It's not that much bigger?I upgraded my 55 to a 110.If you want to upgrade go as big as you can..
