Financial Reports - Q1 2013

I'm am free to have my opinion just like anybody else....

No, that's the issue, you are not. There are very clear laws which govern the exchange and publication of financial information of a non-profit organization. Your president knows that so I'm assuming it will be a non-issue and no vote will be taken anyway.

As a long time prospective member, I have always been a little leery about joining due to the lack of transparency and purpose in the organization. As with any responsible consumer/ donor, I like to see where my money would go should I choose to spend it.

Just my 2 cents.

You aren't going to bait me Ted Horowitz.

I'm am free to have my opinion just like anybody else, and I provided it in a respectful manner.

My obligation is to the paid members off the club and thus my opinion and my voting is representative of that.

I will let the rest of the board weigh in on a final decision of the request.

This will be my final post here. Congrats on your graduation from law school. Have a nice evening.

If it were me, I wouldn't argue about what's legal with someone named Horowitz.

with all due respect to the BOD at CMAS, if the intent to distribute was intended for exclusive purpose of "members only", perhaps an email to each of your members with this info would have been a more prudent form of communication....

instead, CMAS chose a very public platform and subsequently now has a very public confrontation...

With a legal matter behind it, not sure how you feel or your opinion means anything. You can't defer to the wishes of the board if the board is legally required to publicize their financials. Further proof of the lack of transparency and issues that have kept MANY from joining your ranks.

When laws a rules are able to be trumped by opinions, well, look at our current government...

To me this post kinda reads "o shat, i better not say anything until i learn what these guys are trying to say"

and that final sentance about congrats on ur grad is a really childish statement.

You're retarded...lol...silly noobs should stay out of shat they know nothing about :)

Oh for the love of everything holy, if you're not doing anything you're worried about people seeing just show the records to everyone.

Why is this such an issue? According to someone in the thread who is a lawyer a non-profit should have this available to anyone so just show it to everyone and stop these stupid threads already.

It appears it is obviously something people are concerned with who are potential members and I would agree. Pretty stupid I have to pay to see what my money goes towards....

I'm a paying member and I can give to craps about who see's it. But I do see where the BOD might only want memebers to see it and not non-members since it's not there money to being showing off too.. But then again Non-members do pay to get into swaps and such..

It sounds like they're legally obligated to make it public being a non-profit though, so why all the stink about it. If it's seriously making people refrain from joining then why would you not post them especially if there's no funny business going on ???

It sounds like there used to be plenty of funny business going on, the new BOD is trying to change that image and be more transparent, then say "we have the numbers, join and see them" ???

Makes no sense to me.

I'm just as clueless.... :confused::confused:

Its funny that I was a member for 3 years and they never would show where the money was going. Now that my membership has ran out they want to show only to members. Way to win me and others back.

***Nothing I have posted in this thread is meant to constitute legal advice or CMAS or any other entity***

It is just some simple information obtained from easily accessible public information.

Typical lawyer disclaimer.

Just saying if you want to be more transparent and show you're doing things differently, then DO them differently.... That's all.

Unfortunately I'm not a lawyer yet, just a J.D. I need to take/pass the bar in July to be a Lawyer/Attorney.

I agree, transparency is 33.3% of the issue with CMAS. The next 33.3% are related to the behavior/decisions of the board of directors. The final 33.3% is related to the fact that there is absolutely ZERO benefit to being a member of CMAS. There are no discounts, no great seminars, no free entry to frag swaps, no reciprocity with other clubs and their frag swaps, and worst of all the past and current BODs have managed to entirely eliminate any sense of Camaraderie.

Basic financials will be made to the public, Bank statements and not a necessary thing to show a prospective member imo. Any prospective member is more than welcome to come check out any detailed information at our club meeting. ;)
More to follow. All your voices are heard, and we all appreciate the support and help.
