Finding ingredients for 2-part locally

Hi all,

Just wondering if any of you make your own 2-part using "Randy's Recipe", and if so, where you get your CaCl2 from. Checked home depot, but they didn't have any. Maybe they only stock it in the winter, for use as a de-icer. Nobody I talked to was sure. Anyways, are there supply stores or hardware stores in southern CT that will sell me this stuff? Dowflake, Pedalow, or Prestone are the brand names that I understand I'm supposed to look for, but I've heard that there may be others (Dow repackaged as something else?). Anyways, hope to hear from some of you.

I usually only see it in the Winter. Walmart & HD usually have the Prestone.

You can also use Leslie's Pool Supply Hardness plus (made by DOW) - which is 98% cacl and 2% water. I believe you use it just like you would Prestone in the Improved Randy's 2-part recipe. They also have something called Alkalinity up or something like that - it's soda ash. But it's just easier to just to bake Arm & Hammer baking soda.

As for the Magnesium - I saw a bag of MAG flakes at a Keough's hardware store in Stamford during the winter, and am pretty much kicking myself for not buying one.

I use baked baking soda for alk. (still have some BRS calcium and Magnesium left) All you need is a good scale for measuring the amounts and few baking sheets (raised edges).

Hope this helps.

Thanks Joe. I found Dowflakes at a hardware store called A.H. Harris here in New Haven. I'll use that and the Arm and Hammer for now; keep my eye open for Mag flakes this winter.
