Almost 0 chance of any LFS QTing it’s fish...
Hi everyone,
Am new to the hobby, and just was wondering if most people just buy fish at their local fish store and quarantine, or if you call the fish stores to find out which ones sell quarantined fish? Thanks. . .

The sheer cost of QTing every fish the LFS in gets would put them out of buisness. Now you may find a smaller specialty LFS that does QT, but they will not have the volume some of the larger stores have.
I know one of the more popular LFS's I go to sells close to 50 fish a week. I also go to a "specialty" shop that sells probably 1 or 2 fish a week. They like us are hobbyist and sells out of his house. They do QT everything because it goes into his 500G tank. If someone comes in and sees something they like, he "fishes" it out and bags it up.
FWIW the "specialty" shop also costs 5x the price as a regular LFS. Sometimes it's worth the extra price to get quality livestock.

What you do, and what can then happen to your tank is entirely up to you.
From what I've heard from aquatics store owners, is not worth it the time to QT the fish, since they come and go so quickly.
Also, a lot of the store nearby my house simply run a therapeutic level of copper in their tanks, as well separating the inverts from the fish.
I still suggest that you QT yourself. Just get a 10g at Petco and make sure you QT up to 2 fish at a time MAXIMUM.![]()
I agree with everyone.... don't trust any LFS or online (no matter how good) to QT fish. I have some excellent LFS around me...nice stores, knowledgeable staff and owners, healthy livestock, but non QT anything. It is always best to QT yourself for sure! [emoji16]Hi everyone,
