finding sand

New member
looking for some white fine grain aragonite sand, but all i can find is live stuff, needless to say i dont wont that. Save my money and seed it myself.
Where might i find this?
 
dude just use cheap play sand. has anyone ever had a problem they could definatly attribute to this? because ive had 3 tanks and 3 years without any problems

Wont the sand release lots of silicates?, ive heard so.

Many inverts actually need some silica to thrive.
In this article Randy Holmes-Farley actually recommends dosing silica if diatoms aren't a problem. I have no idea, if the silica in sand would be in a biologically usable form, and you would not really be able to control its release rate....

How big should the sand be though for a 3 inch bed? I think i read that too small and it ruins the whole bed (no flow). So what would be the proper size? 1.5-2mm
 
Much, much smaller for a DSB. Flow/circulation is accomplished by benthic infauana in a "proper" DSB. I've yet to have a DSB become "solid" or "impacted".
