Fins & Fur in the Boro

I feel like I need to say she did say I needed a new tank for the shark I was just haveinh a bad day when I was saying some stuff about the shark deal and she did help me out a lot with my tank. Every thing I had in my tank came from her and it all lived and was healthy I had one bad fish that did die and she replaced it with no questions and it was a hippo tang I never have been in a perfect store but I do kno Wth out her help my tank never would have made it as far as it was befor I took it down I some times go in there to just hang out so you can't read what I said about the shark and judge her store because I was the wrong one posting what I did and not saying evertying that was said about it

Being humble and silent pay off sometimes. I have had plenty of times I could have argued with someone over their smart mouth or the people who know it all but hey its really not worth it. I like how she approached the posts that were posted makes me think more of a person when you get a feedback like that.

I like how she did the feedback....At least she is trying to make things right, a very positive step towards the customers!!!

I agree, and I commend her on her response. I live in the Boro, and I have spent a few hours in this store.

Yes, the tanks have been cloudy on occasion due to cleaning, but I would rather see them spending time cleaning the tanks regularly than just let them slip away as I have seen in many stores. She also stated that she is changing the sand in these systems and changing cleaning schedules which should help a great deal.

Yes, I have seen some cyano or diatom problems in their tanks, but how many of you did not have these problems when your tanks were as new as these?

No, the employees do not know everything and I have heard them give some very outdated or just flat out poor advice. My questions is... what do you expect? It is a VERY new store and the employees are most likely new as well. How many of you were at your current knowledge base after a few months? I know that I am learning new information every day, and I still do not take any one person's word for something that I am not sure of without doing my own research first. I will say that I have spoken to Krystal a few times, and found that she is pretty knowledgable. Much more so than I would expect from most LFS's.

My point is that I have seen a great deal of improvement in this store since I have been going there, and they are trying to improve across the board. I did have a bad experience with something that happened at Fins and Fur, but I had to tell myself that it was out of their control, and to let it go. I think they are doing pretty good for a new store. What more can you ask for? I want to see them succeed, and I truly want them to get to the Critter or Ebay Fish level. If this happens, it will only benefit the reefing community in Middle TN. I will continue to support all local LFS's that deal in reefs because the better they get, the more options I have.

I will also add that I have bought a few corals, polyps and fish from them, and they are all still healthy and doing great... well except for one that jumped out, but that was my fault.

I hope they keep it up, keep listening to the customers, and keep improving. It will benefit us all.

Im planning on stopping by there & Fins at some point in the near future. Im not sure of everything that transpired over the last year & what all has happened to cause the bad blood, but it looks like they are trying to turn things around & hopefully we can all support one another in this hobby.

I like the store jusi because it is close but she is only after the dollar I mean she tried to sell me a bamboo shark for my 55 gal. I hate to say it but I think I am going to have to give up on her just because she would rather lie to you get your money than say no a shark can't go in a 55. I knew the whole time it wouldent work I just wanted to see if she would rely sale it to me and she sure tried hard to

.....I feel that I have to respond to this, I am an ex-employee of Fins of Franklin, (worked there for 6 years). Throughout the duration of the employment there I have always followed my personal "method" of selling livestock which I clearly communicated to both William and the previous owner Tim on the first day of my employment. That "method" is I will sell my customers whatever they are willing to pay for, but not before I have made sure that I have honestly communicated all the information I can provide the customer with to help him/her successfully keep the creatures they purchase, after that it is they're responsibility. Before leaving the company last year I had confronted William about that exact "lack of communication" when selling larger or delicate creatures, (especially sharks), on multiple occasions and saw no improvement over the year or so that I worked for him. I even bought him the book, "Aquarium Sharks and Rays" by Scott W. Michael as a gift hoping that would help him understand what he was doing, keep in mind this was long before Fins and Fur existed. With that being said i feel this is a great opportunity to confess something that has been bothering me for some time now......
I live for this hobby, ever since I was a young kid I have been fascinated with aquatic life and have tried to promote responsible aquarium practices in my community. With that being said I feel that I had betrayed myself and my fellow hobbyists during the last year or so of my employment there. I have always tried to stick to my morals but during the last year or so of my employment I had held my tongue on way to many occasions and let a customer leave the shop after they were given advice that I strongly disagreed with. I did this in an attempt to avoid creating tension in the workplace, and as a result I feel like I could have prevented the deaths of many innocent creatures. For this I am ashamed of myself and for what it's worth, I am truly sorry. I feel that of all my customers, MTRC members would understand and appreciate this more than anyone. I believe you all share the same passion for this hobby that I do. With that being said I would like to say that I am very happy to hear that Fins is starting to act more responsibly, and i encourage all of you to continue helping them in they're improvement. I have worked with Krystal and though I will admit that I do not agree with a lot of her advice, she is truly passionate about this hobby and with proper guidance can potentially offer much to our community. Communication is the key my friends. So with that being said, I encourage all of you to continue your business with Fins, but I will stress to all of you to do your research before purchasing anything from them, and to let them know if your research conflicts with they're advice. Constructional criticism is the best method towards improving the functionality of a business. I dedicated the majority of my adult life to that store, and although I am no longer associated with Fins, I would love nothing more than to see it once again thrive as an honest and reliable LFS.

Thanks for the response and honest post Fishman. we are about to have a nwe LFS in my area that I hope listens to the advice of hobbyists and works hard to cater to what we need as well as to remain successful in the business. AC has done this, Ebay I dont know as the few visits I had there, I never felt welcomed. I too was hoping Fins and FuR would succeed, but as we see now, it didnt. it was a good concept, but jsut got off to a bad foot and soured many of us.
