Saw this on DD & was wondering what they're like. How big will they get, how nasty are they, do they move around or stay put, I'm guessing they are not good for clowns, or any other info you care to share.

Thanks
Jim

So I guess it would seem odd that the ONLY reason I haven't bought it already is that I haven't set up the tank that I would keep it in yet? Maybe I'm just weird lol.

Here's what I could find in "A Pocket Guide to Marine Invertebrates" by Ronald L. Shimek:

Up to about 12 inches in diameter across the disk, 50g tank minimum, moderate lighting, and needs to be fed for best health. "Reasonably hardy, but reported to kill fishes. Handle with gloves and extreme care; stings are notoriously painful. Do best in moderately strong currents and need a relatively deep sand bed to allow for burrowing activities. Some burrow during the day and emerge to feed at night, while others have the reverse behavior patterns. No clownfishes naturally associate with them. Some Periclimenes shrimps do well with these hosts."

I've seen a few of these in person, they are solid, no-messing-around, no-photoshoop, RED. They're gorgeous. :)

I believe a more accurate ID for them is "Phyllodiscus semoni" (night anemone) but I'd love more information or a better guess if anybody has one. They stick out a "feeding arm" apparatus at night to capture prey. If the ID is accurate, they can be dangerous to humans, so be quite careful when handling.

I never been willing to keep a fishless setup, so no first-person info. A friend kept one in a small tank for awhile and said it was hardy and beautiful and easy to feed until it got sucked into a vortech.
