Fire Shrimp really hide?

Do Fire Shrimp really spend their day hiding? This is the type I'm talking about:

How about with a pair? Also, there are a decent amount of fish swimming around if that makes a difference. Do they eventually stop hiding over time?

If they are just going to hide, I'll go with the Skunk Cleaners again. I already have a CBS that I don't see except at night, so I don't want another shrimp that I'm not going to see.

Mine is always hiding. Even at night it never really walks on top of the rockwork. Skunk cleaners are way more active and won't always hide. They are however not as pretty and vividly colored as their counterpart IMO.

When kept as the only pair of shrimp in the tank, they typically stayed hiden most of the time but came out in front during feeding time. I added a pair of skunk shrimp a few months ago as and now I rarely ever see the Fire Shrimp ... even during feeding time.

I used to get them all the time at the LFS I worked at, and, heaven forbid there be more than 5 lbs of liverock in their tank, or they'd hide and never been seen.

However, they behave a bit like peppermint shrimp in their reclusive nature, so there IS a trick you can try. Offer them big rock overhangs or large, open caves. My experience with fire shrimp is that they seem to prefer having a safe, shady place to hang out, and will often by more apt to be visible for humans if given such places to hand upside down in.

G'luck!

I've had two Skunk Cleaners sinceI had the CBS. A tiny one that one day disapeared and a medium sized one that lived within a few inches of the CBS. It died, but wasn't from the CBS. I found the body on the bottom complete.

I decided to get 2 Skunk Cleaners, so we'll see how the CBS is again.

The fire shrimp was the first shrimp I introduced to my tank and I would see it all the time. However, after I introduced a CBS that took over half the tank, I rarely seen the fire shrimp. There is always going to be things you won't see, thats why I have 6 shrimp so that hopefully I see one or two whenever I look at the tank.
