i have a few miles of wire in my house and i pray to god that it all works ! scary huh ? its also my greatest fearis burning down my house and especially my dog ,he is my best friend ya know . nothing is foolproff and lets all remember that . the 17 tanks that i have are all as good as i can do but its in the hands of the makers of all thease gadgets that we have so many of ! good thing that you were there ,wow . i had flames come out of a ballast one time i was very fortunate just like you , to be there at the moment of failure.hope i can sleep tonite thanks for the fuel for my nightmares when i go to bed ,maybe i won'tgo to sleep ever again .

Do you know what actually caused the fire?? was it salt creep getting to the fixture or a bulb etc,,, Just curious.
At least you were "Blessed" and it did not turn out to awful bad!!

I dont no. I got a refugium on the back The hang on kind an the light was on it You cant see the light good until the light goes off the big tank.I was sitting in a chair watching tv danny went to bed.And I saw a flame on the back of the tank An went to check it out. On the back of the wall was just starting to burn boy this is close.This makes you think .Do I need this tank this mad.

The light fixture was on fire at the end where the bulb goes in.It was not wet. I dont no why it was on fire. But the hold end part was flaming. It was just starting to burn .The back of the wall has a big black spot on it.Never had anything to happen to me like this. NowI am worry about the hold tank.

Sounds like a great topic for a meeting. I know we should all have GFI outlets or a GFCI set up some how, but I don't even know for sure whether I have that.
I know to loop the power cords and mount the power stips up above where water can flow. But does the average computer type power strip have GFI built it? They don't trip like a GFCI or have a reset button. I would think GFCI might be bad anyway because if it tripped while you weren't there it would shut all the power off to your tank.
I would LOVE to know more about this! I"ve always sworn that the first call I make if/when I get another tank is to an electrician to see if I can put all the tank gear on a separate .... oh .. don't know the word .... not a whole circuit but have one dedicated breaker switch for the tank.
