Firefish flashing for months.

I have a purple firefish that has been flashing occasionally for three months now. No signs of anything else wrong. I inspect him very closely all the time. He and my two OC clowns are perfectly normal. Is it possible that there is nothing wrong with him?

Given there are no visible signs but flashing I'm at a loss as to how to move forward. The firefish seem perfectly normal. He is very active in the DT. Aggressively competes for food with the two OC clowns. When I originally saw the flashing the advice I got out here was to observe for symptoms....3 months later still observing... All other inhabitants seem healthy and happy. Do I just keep observing until I see something appear in the OC clowns? Would like some experienced advice
TY in adavance

Was he flashing while in quarantine? Five weeks is not enough time in quarantine especially without prophylactically treatment. Like Humblefish said it could be ich but it could also be flukes. Unfortunately you would have to catch and dip him to confirm flukes. Some people have dosed Prazi directly into their main tanks with success. I have not done it so I can not speak as to the outcome.

OK, sort of OT but still relevant to what the OP might be facing. Let's say it is flukes. The fish has been "flashing occasionally for three months now." How long can a fish survive with flukes?

My pink spotted goby just went through this. I fought flukes last year for months. He went through quarantine, FW dips and Prazi. I thought he was clear and put him back into the main last October. Three weeks later he would flash occasionally. None of the other fish were flashing. In May my Blenny and and royal gramma started flashing and yawning. I took them all out and dipped...flukes.
A fish can live with a few and depending upon the fish they may never show obvious signs until they are inundated. Depending on water flow, fish population, water changes and water quality a fluke may not "land" on a host. In several studies it is observed that a fluke can swim but it can not fight against a current to find a host.

So basically, flukes are like ich. Meaning, a fish can "live with the problem" for an infinite amount of time?

All good points but I'm still perplexed. I would be more alarmed if the firefish showed any other signs at all but he looks and acts perfectly healthy.
