Guys, i had 6 red firefish and a purple firefish that has passed away in my care. I keep on researching on how to successfully keep and how to care for a firefish but the result is still the same. Guys i need your advise how to successfully keep atleast one firefish. All the websites ive checked they keep on saying that the care level for firefish is easy however i have no luck on firefish so need your expertise please.

Snorvich hope you read this need your help...

PLEASE NOTE THAT NOT ALL FIREFISH WAS IN MY TANK AT THE SAME TIME. IT DIED ONE AT A TIME. TO BE MORE CLEAR 7 OCCASSIONS.

We need more info.

How long has the tank been setup? What sized tank? What other livestock do you have? Any signs of infection? Maintenance schedule on the tank? Feedings?

At this point 'd stop trying lol. If the firefish is with boisterous tankmates, it will scare them away during mealtime and they will slowly starve.

Of the 3 I've owned, the first two who were with larger tankmates, one slowly withered away, and the other jumped to his death. My current one has lasted a while and he is the largest fish in there.

I know it is not what you want to hear but, please stop trying. Seven dead fish. This is very sad. Sometimes it is wise to just give up. There are other fish.

Have you had success with other species? We could try to diagnose the problem if you gave us more info about your tank. How long has it been setup? What is currently in it? How did the earlier ones die? Water parameters and maintenance schedule are also useful.

That is a really bad run, but as others suggested, it may be time to give up on that particular type of fish in that particular tank (this is assuming that all 7 were individually added to the same tank). Where are you getting the fish from? A LFS?

My related story, I have a 65 gallon tank, tried a bi-color died within a week, tried another, died within a month, waited awhile, tried a flame angel, it died within 2 months, waited tried a coral beauty, lasted about two months, tried another coral beauty, lasted about two months, tried another flame angel it lasted a few months, and gave up on dwarf angels in that tank. This tank can support a mandarin, but for unknown reasons it is a dwarf angel graveyard.

Please give me more information, specifically, what other fish and inverts are in this tank.

85g. clown tang, brown tang, sailfin tang, 3 green chromis, diadema dottyback, 2 percula clown, maroon clown, damsels, fire shrimp, harlequin shrimp, 3 pistol shrimps.

Well, the clown tang will kill the "brown tang" eventually. Either the clown tang will kill the sailfin tang or vice versa (I bet on the clown tang). The chromis will become one after they kill the weakest. The dottyback will kill any firefish and other fish are candidates as well. The maroon clown will kill someone once it is mature. Oh and by the way, your tank must be new.

After spending the last half hour plus reviewing bng.fixious's posts I'm not sure if troll or just wildly incompetent. bng.fixious you have some the most atrocious stocking levels I've seen in the history of this forum.

When did you set the 85G up? Just a few weeks ago it was a 55gal, though I've seen you say in your posts anything from a 10 to 30 to 110gallon to two 55 gallons plumbed together somehow and now an 85g.

You desperately need to get your stocking levels down to an appropriate and sustainable level for whatever size tank this actually is before trying to add yet another fish to the tank. When that is done can root out what continuing issues may be contributing to fish deaths.

I just reviewed his posting history for a few minutes also. A fun little game for anyone who is bored...Count how many tanks and tank inhabitants he claims to have had versus what he is claiming to have now. Remember, he has only been posting here for 6 months. The amount of livestock that *vanished* is amazing.

Yes, but I would substitute "sad" for "amazing".

it was a 55gal tank OBVIOUSLY i upgraded my tank to 85gal last thursday. that's why im saying i have a 85gal tank now. wow its not that hard to connect the dots. i sold my 55gal tank DISPLAY TANK. i have a 55 gallon tank/pond buried on my floor (to make my water colder) that is connected to my sump and NEW DISPLAY TANK WHICH IS 85gal. one power-head for three, flowing water.

snorvich, we can say that my tank is new however i didn't throw my cycled water when i upgraded to 85gal. i still used my old cycled water and just added 40gal of new water since it is due for my water changed. it was all planned out. my clown tang is very peaceful and don't fight with the brown tang. on the other hand, the brown tang is the aggressor but the clown tang doesn't mind him at all. sailfin is huge and is also peaceful, bottomline no quarreling occurring in my tank for now. the dottyback was a late addition, the firefish died before the dottyback was placed.

now for my other livestock that is being questioned by beandawg, they are all in my pond. now do you get it now???

I need pictures of this pond. I still think you have a lot of fish but live the dream. I thought I was at max fish with my 120 but now I am going to head to the LFS and buy a couple Moorish Idols.
