First 65g Reef

Hi everyone,
I've finally made my decision to start planning a salt water reef tank. After selecting the fish and coral I would like
I've decided 65g is plenty space for me.
The debate if I should use a sump or hanging system started. The salesman was saying a sump is not necessary for a 65g. However and to not get one.
I started looking into the size once a sump is required and seen people with 20g using sump.
I can see the benefits for sure with water levels.
To use sump or not?
Thanks

If you want to keep things simple and are willing to do VERY regular water changes with good RO/DI water and good salt, you don't need a sump.

If you want to do fewer water changes and learn about filtration and have room for special options like GFO, carbon, skimmer etc, then a sump is a good idea. And the bigger the better. Get or build a stand that is bigger than your tank. That way you have some working space next to the tank (extremely useful) and room for a bigger sump and or refugium (good for the tank).

I have a 65g shallow reef and a 25g frag tank that share a 125g sump/refugium. It makes life much easier.
