First 90mm Macro Shots

I just got this from UPS this evening. The excitement and anticipation was definitely worth it!

Thanks to everyone who recommended this lens (tamron 90mm) to me (and help who helped me find the right one!).

Any feedback or constructive criticism would be appreciated. All of these are straight out of the camera (no post processing or editing). The pictures were taken from my nikon d40.

These look awesome! Nice job! Can you share your settings? Also, how far into the tank were the corals in the pics?

Thank you. Most of these corals were within 5 inches of the front pane of glass. For the very close ones my lens was touching the front pane.

In order:

Shutter Speed: 10/1000 second
F Number: F/5.6
Focal Length: 90 mm
ISO Speed: 800

Shutter Speed: 10/150 second
F Number: F/14.0
Focal Length: 90 mm
ISO Speed: 400

Shutter Speed: 10/150 second
F Number: F/14.0
Focal Length: 90 mm
ISO Speed: 400

Shutter Speed: 10/150 second
F Number: F/14.0
Focal Length: 90 mm
ISO Speed: 400

The rest are relatively the same.

The higher numbered F stops have the highest depth of field. Also, moving the camera farther from the subject will increase the depth of field as well. I think F14 should be plenty high enough for good depth of field. You need to not shoot so close to the subject if you want more depth of field. I have an old Tamron 90mm macro and I almost always shoot at F11 on my tank with it.

Very nice shots Logzor! It's nice if you only have frags that you can physically move in front of the glass for macros, but when you have full grown colonies in the back of the tank, that's when you'll wish you had a longer macro.... like a Sigma 150 :D

Btw What do you think about the build quality of the lens? ;)

Thank you!

All of the pictures that I took were of frags that were already in the front :)

I am very happy with the build quality. It is heavy and solid. Definitely not the nice feeling of cold metal but I still like it!

I thought the manual/auto focus ring was kind of weak at first but now I am comfortable moving it back and forth forcefully.
