First BC 29

Well thanks for all your help, I know some kits are just blue and white but I'd like the full spectrum and if I'm dropping some money for the good stuff I might as well get the best stuff.

I just want to tell you your rock work is very cute. I love a good aquascape. we should start a forum for it. show me your rock work.

For the other half of chamber 2, you should look at the inTank Fuge basket. I've got mine loaded with cheato - have a nice JBJ nano LED that is on when main lights are off. My chaeto grows very very well - trim it every 2 weeks.

Ok thanks I'll look into it

New skimmer installed, I'm hopping the micro bubbles in the tank are normal till break in?

I'm running the same tank and skimmer. The skimmer has been ruining a little more then a week and the micro bubbles have subsided a considerable amount. They are not gone but they will settle down.
And pertaining the noise volume did you do the "airline mod" if not Google "aquaticlife 115 airline mod" I barely hear mine after this mod.

Give it 2 weeks minimum to break in. Also, looks like you're skimming a bit wet still, so if possible, I'd raise the height. You are welcome to skim wet, but remember that you'll be removing more saltwater if you do, so you'll have to check your salinity more often if you're just going to keep topping off with RO.

The best this skimmer will do is a dark wet skim. But I agree your water/foam height is a bit high try and adjust it so the foam head is just above where the skimmer cup meets the body.

It's hard to tell in this pic but you can see the foam head is just entering the funnel part of the skimmer cup. Mine has only been running about 1.5 weeks so it's still finding its groove.

I opened the outflow all the way up, Seems to be not as wet now. I have it as high i can go without hitting the lid. It's been running 2 days now I think and the micro bubbles have calmed way down. Still chugs and gurgles a bit. I'm starting to see very small spots of detritus on the rocks and the green stuff in spots the size of needle heads.

Ok thanks, ya it's looks more like yours now I turned it down :)

I just seem you use a tube on the knob, I think I'm going to copy your idea lol

Wasn't my idea but copy away lol. 1/2 inch tubing fits perfect Makes adjusting way easier. Did you catch a few posts up about the airline mod to make it run quieter?

yes I ran a new line from the inside up through the hole and about 6 inches on the outside of the body.

So the skimmer has calmed way down and making small bubbles consistently, nothing in the tank so it's not skimming anything. I have it as high up as i can get it, it was hitting the lid and the top of the body is just under the waterline. I ran the hose to the stand, much quieter now. So i guess until i get live stuff it wont pull anything out i take it?

ammonia 0
nitrite 5
nitrate 40

I found the body needs to be just above the water line to get good consistent skimmate. Unfortunately this also means the back lid won't close. Not a huge deal for me as I replaced the lid with an egg crate lid that houses 2 PC fans for cooling. I've also found that having the bubbles start at the neck(where it just starts to taper) gets me nice dry skimmate.
