First Clam

Well, i've been wanting clams for a while now and I think i'm ready to get one.

My tank :
20 Long, approx 35lbs of LR and LS, Few SPS, LPS, Soft Coral's, Xenia, Ricordea's.
1 Tuxedo Urchin ( will this be a problem ?)
1 Tomato clown,
1 Six-line wrasse.
All along with a few crab's, snail's, bristleworms, and the regular critters.

The tank has been running for approx 1 year. I upgraded my lighting from 2 X 65W PC to 1 X 250W MH with a 10k k bulb about a month - 1.5 months ago.

Want to order my first clam from clamsdirect. And have been thinking of getting a small sized Maxima. Probably around the 2.5-3" size. Would this be good to start with ?

My Ammo = 0
Nitrates = ( cant remember the exact amount, but very little traceable)
Nitrites - 0 ( or did I confuse NitrAtes and nitrItes ? )
Calc around 420
Alk - 11

I currently feed the tank ESV's phytoplankton's, and at time's DT's.

I say you're good to go. I just got my first one about a month ago and I'm up to 4 currently; see avatar :D. It gets addicting really fast so beware. Good luck with your first clam.

I don't know if the urchin would be a problem or not. That would depend on where you are going to place the clam in the tank. Personally I don't trust crabs at all (but that's just me). My first clam was a 2" maxima and he is doing really well. You should be fine as long as the urchin doesn't knock the clam out of the rockwork (if you are planning on putting the clam in the rocks). Good luck

The clam will be on the sand bed along with a few "clam" shells so that it can attach to them.

Oh yeah, have you gotten a copy of Giant Clams by Daniel Knopp? That is definitely the recommended book for clams. Happy Clamming
