A buddy of mine gave a frag of one of his softies with polyps on it. Im not sure what its called. My question is how long does it take for em to open up after transporting them

Picture would be good, but generally it can take up to 48 hrs, but if everything is ok it should open sooner. For example pulsing xenia in my tank opened after 2 hrs after introducing and acclimatization, GSP (green star polip) opened next morning after introducing and acclimatization late evening.
