just got these yesterday at Aquatic Environments in Davenport. can ayone tell me what kind of brain this is please, and if it supposed to open more than this, i am a litttle worried about it because after i got it home i noticed some dead spots on it and a worm too. i tried to get the worm off but it got behind the coral and vanished.

I dont know about your brain, but a real nice rock of zoo's.. Out of curiousity, what did that set you back?

Thx

Their prices have definatly gone up in the last year. I was in there last night and that had some sweet stuff, but the lowest price is $39.99 for yellow polyps and any LPS is $60 and up.

I dont think thats a Lobo, looks more like a Trachyphyllia sp., but its hard to tell from the pic. It does look like there is an area to be concerned about roughly in the center, appears the flesh is gone or going(may just be the pic?), I would keep a close eye on this.

I know nothing about the store, so I dont if taking it back is even an option. You may want to get this up on the LPS forum and see if you can get any feedback, I dont keep many LPS and am not completely sure what to advise. It may pull through this on its own, I would keep good flow around the coral and watch whether or not this gets worse. You might want to get some tincture of Iodine, should find it at most drug stores, and gently dab some onto the affected area with a Q-tip, do this out of the tank, and rinse the coral with tank water before returning it.

well, i figured if my fish want to keep getting ich, i didnt spend over 2 grand to be able to keep corals for nothing, and corals cant get ich so i decided to keep it up and just do corals for a while and get back to fish some other time, although the fish are still alive because of the cleaner shrimp i think, but the atlantic blue i think is sick of the cleaner shrimp, i havent seen ant ich on the naso yet, but the blue i am afradi is probably going to be dead by morning because he hasnt come out yet and i pulled the background back to see how he was doing and he doesnt look so good, so i will let you guys know how he fares.

Your brain tumor is ok. The tissue looks to be reattatched to that section and the skeleton is aged not white, this means it is an older wound. The thing you will want to watch is hair algae growth on that section. Keep your phosphates and nitrates low.

You might want to take a soft bristle tooth brush and brush the fleshy area where that wound is (just lightly) to stiulate it a bit.

Then use a harder bristle (dental brush) on the skeleton area to remove any algea and/or debris.

I ave seen corals come back from much worse- you judt need to stay on top of that batch of exposed skeleton and make sure it does not get encrusted or overgrown in any fashion.

Nice looking LPS coral but seems awfully high priced - then again I've not bought anything but frags since I have only 12 gallons to fill!
