[And excuse the likely stupid sounding question..but w/ your 100mm lens what distance are you having to stand back from the tank? I'm still a "newb" in the world of SLR and just got my 20D in March so I'm learning how to play with it.

I have a Sigma 105mm Macro and the closest focus is ~12", but that makes for a 1:1 ratio, course the depth of field at that distance is ~.25" unless you really 'stop it down'.

i have no idea what the ratio is on my lens (i really need to invest in a true macro lens)...and i obviously have a lot of terms to learn still.

One of the cool things about photography is that you don't have to learn it all at once, you can learn it as you need it, as long as you have a grip on the basics.

I've been doing this for well over 30 years and I still manage to learn a little tidbit on just about any photo shoot I undertake.

Great Huskies everyone. Trust me, I'll never mind them taking over my thread!!!!!

I'm using the Canon Digital Rebel XT. I was ~12" away.

I definitely need to look at investing in a macro lens...I'm not thrilled about having to stand 5' away for my lens to take macro's. How are you liking your 100mm yetti? (btw..way off topic...but yetti was the name of my cat I had growing up lol...)

I LOVE my 100mm.....worth every penny...

That's cool...I came up with the name cause they call Bigfoot in Siberian Yetti....my puppy had some big feet and it just stuck...

lol, that's why we named my cat yetti. She had 2 extra toes on each foot so we gave her the name for bigfoot. :)

Where did you say you bought the lens from?
