First nest of True perk eggs :)

What a great thing to happen
My True Perculas layed there first batch of eggs last night much to my surprise.
I took some pictures yesterday of them not realizing they were cleaning the rock getting ready to spawn. I have included a picture of them before they layed down the eggs.
Then 2 pictures of them with there eggs.
These Clowns came from Reefermadness as babys, not a pair, just two young about 8 months ago.
They have never left each others side since the day I purchased them.
Also the tank they are in is a 125 and only 2 months old so they settled in fast.
I have only attempted to raise clown fry once with no success but may in the future try to raise some of these True Perks as they are so beautiful
This pair used to be in my 45 gallon since purchasing them.
Then went into the 125 when it was set up.
Here are the pictures taken by an excited Grandma:)

Thanks Just, I am very proud of them both.
The female is only about 2" if that so I am surprised that she layed allready.
They are being good parents and protecting the nest from those horid blue damsels who keep swimming around there anemone and nest hoping for some lunch.:)

I like to keep a log in pictures of eggs. ( I used to have laying Clarki)
I just took a few pictures of Mom and Dad tending to there eggs. Dad is way up underneith the anemone by his eggs.

Thanks Traveller.
I will be doing some reading up on rotifers in hopes of getting some started for the next batch.
Might as well try my hand raising some ha?!

congrats on the clowns. i have but one question.....what kind of anemone are they hosting in? in the first set of pics im let to belive that it is a BTA but in that last pic it looks more like an LTA so which is it??

good luck with whatever you try to do with the babies.

Man you must have a green/fish thumb for these things !!

It's unfair, your RBTAs thrive like there's no tomorrow and now you have clowns that spawn under one year of age, what's your secret :)

I'm 110% jealous.

Beng

Hi Beng. I wonder sometimes to about that. I have no sump, no fuge, and no fancy dodagits on any of my tanks.
I dont dose anything, I do water changes when I feel like it.
I have no MH lights on any of my tanks either.
All are vho fixtures with moon lights, (a new addition I am having fun with)
I think this hobby is way overblown when it comes to newfangle things to add/put on it.
I have always gone with the basics on all of my tanks. Feed allot, clean algae daily off the glass and all thrive and grow just fine.
Goes to show you that all that stuff isnt needed if you have the right combination of things on/in the tank for filtration etc.
I believe in lots of live rock, lots of feather dusters for filtration and sand beds.
I use an aquaclear 500 on my tanks with the blue and white filter material at all times. Add new carbon once a month or so. Cheap skimmers that pump out black goo daily and the cups are emptied daily.
I also beleive in a clean up crew and love the cleaner shrimp for all tanks as they will eat any food that falls to the bottom of the tank.
It is all ballance from what I see:)
Its what I have always done and will always stick to.
Just the way I have always done it and it works for me:)
Just a short version of how I do things and thanks for the compliment. You made me smile.

wow, did u do anything special to get them to breed?
i have a couple (hopefully), of ocellaris, and i've had them for about a month almost, and they have never left each other yet.
i only have a blue tang in there, but the blue tang was a former tankmate.

i want to get my clowns to spawn T_T.

Paool, not a thing, just lots of food I guess.
I feed very heavely, mysis shrimp, cyclop eeze, enriched brine and sometimes flake but not often.
A happy clown is a full clown:)
Visit my web site for more information on my tanks.
I just added the section for the tank they are in with pictures of whats in it with them.

I just have one question...What does everyone that breeds these (or any other fish) do with the fry? Sell them? Trade? Food for the tank? There are a lot of people that breed clowns and I am just wondering what to do if my false percs ever decide to do the deed. I have seen some comment that their clowns breed like clockwork every couple weeks to a month and that would be a lot of fish over the course of a pair's lifespan.

Old, I think some raise every 5 or 10 clutches then sell them to the local SW stores. My local store has tank raised clowns for sale most of the time. Not wild caught.
Most of my eggs will be food for the fish and corals.
I just don't have the time to raise any right now.
On another note. The eggs are turning dark so they are fertile (way to go little man)

I wasn't sure if I should say it or not, but that is my plan. If some make it, great! I figure it is the natural way of doing it if I am not going to try to raise them.

Old, its all we can do, just to many eggs layed in a fast sequence. It would be a full time job if we were to try and raise them all :)
