I am looking to put a clam in my tank. Specs are in signature, as well as fish load. My lighting is two 50/50 10000K 65W Coralites kept about 2-3 inches above tank.

Firstly, I am okay to add a clam? I assume closer to the light is better since my lighting doesn't seem as strong as other clam owners.

Second, if okay to go, what is a good "starter" clam?

a would suggest a Derasa.
