i just use the stock return pumps and i have a purigen bag and just some ceramic rings i just doubled them up and took the black filter sponge out i use the stock uv light and i use the oceanic bio cube skimmer

What is the stock uv light? Do you just mean you're using the compact florescent lid to light the tank, or did you buy a UV water sterilizer?

@kaskiles i'm sorry i bought the uv light designed for the system...it didn't come with it...it's the jbj uv light..

@yukyuklee do the ceramic rings hurt anything? i thought just for extra filtration couldn't hurt...or is there something else i could put there to clear it up?

Carbon does a good job of clearing the water....I also have the ceramic rings that my red sea max kit came with and i put them in there not thinking that i have 40-50 pounds of live rock in my tank....So im will be staying tuned to this to see if i should take it out and just leave the carbon media in.

i dont use any carbon at all i wasn't sure if that stripped any trace elements out of the water can i use that along with the purigen and phosgone

in my LFS i been using seachem purigen and phosgone they have a carbon one could i use that or is there better ones out there...thanks for the help i need it lol

I mean i don't see why you couldnt use it maybe try doing a little research on it while your waiting for someone to reply...I am new to this hobby so I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction and cause problems in your tank. But i would go on their website and read up on it or read the labels on the bottle as they might tell you whether you can use them in junction or not. Hopefully someone with better understanding of this stuff will chime in and help you out.

I think the system looks and sounds like it's running good, I don't know that I'd change anything with the filtration yet... The Purigen will remove organics, similar to carbon (lets call it GAC, granular activated carbon).

If you are not having algae issues anymore, and the cloudy water happened after the microvert, maybe the cloud is gone by now. My has clouded up a couple times since starting, but always clears up on it's own, this might be natural within the first 6 months or so.

I'm currently not using anything except powerheads (circulation), and water changes; on a very light bio-load.

What kind of water changes are you doing? If you change something like 2 gallons per week, you might not need any additional filtration.
