First SAT tomorrow....

Tomorrow i will take the SAT:eek2: . This will be my first of probably a couple that i will take. I am VERY nervous, and even though i have been preparing for this for months and months, i have a gut feeling that i will probalby not do so well:confused: . BUT, i can take it more than once, and up to 5 times, and all of the scores will be compiled and the highest of EACH section will be the one shown to the colleges i am interested in. I just wanted to ask all ya'll out there to wish me luck (i will need it...lol) :bum:

they aren't as hard as they like to make themselves out to be, I didn't study for my first one that I took in high school, I had the ACT though and I got a 30 out of 36 with a 36 in math. Honestly now a days if you have a high reading leveling you do very well on the SAT. I took the ACT back in 6th grade, they thought I was some sort of math god as I scored a perfect on some state math test thing, and I got a 22 on the ACT. My understanding is that the SAT is a bit different but overall a bit easier, but that could just be Midwest ego.

I liked the ACT better than the SAT but took both. Did better on the ACT too

Don't be afraid to take both!

Seth, go in confident and do your best. I think you will do very well. Stressing over it ahead of time does you no good. Deep breath, good night's sleep and wake up and KNOW you'll do well. GL and see you after...Marcye

oh they say that if you eat fish before the test and listen to classical music you do better, I think the fish is for a better memory and the classical music is suppose to raise your IQ, and no fatty foods or foods high in sugar but most importantly get some good sleep. And make sure your calculator has enough battery life, on my first test that I took in high school for the ACT my battery died on my calculator halfway through the math section had to do a lot of math in my head its a good thing I was pretty good at it back then.

Hah I'm such a nerd I have spare calculator batteries with me at all times :(

Fish contains omega 3 fatty acids which are great food for thought so to speak :)

Don't sweat it - these aren't *that* important unless you are some how being pressured to be a superhuman college crazy kid whose parents will hate you if youd ont make it to an ivy league college

I have a feeling your parents just want you to do well and feel good about yourself and your performance so go in there and say "I am going to whoop this tests butt!" and then proceed to do so :)

I found it really helps to have a piece of gum or something to chew if you are nervous. Start out by picking a section to work on and scan over the questions. I always had more than enough time but don't let yourself get stuck on one question. If you feel you're doing too mcuh with it skip it and go back to it (dont forget about it though)

When you're done if you were iffy on some stuff don't be afraid to go back over it ... Now that I think about it do they hand it out to you in sections? I forget?

Either way its no big deal - and on multiple choice? the age old Eliminate 2 of the choices then its gotta be whats left usually works.

Some strategies to take with you above and beyond the SATs :)

oh yeah and on the test all options abcd are equally spread out basically if there are 40 questions 10 will be a 10 b 10 c 10 d for each section of the test, so if things go bad and you do get to the point where you are running out of time quickly deduce which answer you have the least of and mark all the rest that answer then if you have time start going back over then.

well, i am not NERVOUD per se', but rather aunted with the thought that THIS TEST is what will be the biggest thing for me to get into the colleges i want to get into, and THAT scares me a bit. BUt i will do my best, that is all i can do, and i am also taking the ACT in June...so, yes, i am taking both, FIT will accept one or the other or both, so if i screw up the SAT, i still have a shot with the ACT. Thanks guys for all of the advice, i leave for Boone Highschool in one minte, and reading all of this really does help. Thanks guys

Don't do it hung over....

lol I know its a little late, but that makes it so much harder to take.

Oh wait your not 21, well don't do it hungover anyways.

I don't know a friend of mine took his the first time strung out on coke and high as a kite and got a perfect score.

I went to University of Missouri-Columbia and the ACT was more important than anything else, GPA figured in but really if you had a high enough ACT score your GPA wasn't even taken into consideration.

Generally math based degrees at your higher colleges will look for the ACT however for me, I needed it for a scholarship. Most require an 1100 in the SAT and a 28 in the ACT. I took the SAT and the first time I received a 1080. I am not a big english buff. I took the ACT and I think I received a 29. The highest used to be 32 I think. I wouldn't stress over it personally.

I've never heard the equal questions per letter though. I guess it is possible but I wouldn't count on it. On the SAT's, it is better to skip a question then to answer wrong. If I recall, every 2 skipped questions equal the same to a single wrong. I think it is a stupid thing but you can increase your chances of a good score.

never heard of the skipping thing, they don't do tha with the ACT or if they do I never heard of it. The reasoning behind the equal questions for every choice deals with the test being equalized standardized test.

I want to shoot for FIT or FAU. and it went OK i think.... I mean, i wont know until i get the scores, but i think i didnt do THAT bad, but if i did, i will know what o expect the second time i go into it. :)
Thanks guys for all of the advice.

and yeah, my friend Christina, not a genius child, went into the SAT's high on speed and she also was drinking a couple hours before it at a party which she was at all night, meaning NO sleep....and she scored PERFECT on EVERTYHING exept for Reading, which she got a VERY high score on anyways...... But that doenst mean that it is easy, becasue it wasnt...lol

Yea, I don't forsee someone being dumber after a night out drinking. Maybe several :).

The ACT doesn't have the question skipping. Only the SAT. Of course that was 12 years ago when I took it. Dang I feel old! That could of been changed. I know when I took it, it was a low percentage of those who received over a 1100 or 28. I had a friend who scored a 1230 and that was considered VERY good. Anything 30 and over was considered the same. I'm not sure what the averages are now, but back then, in Florida, the average was 1000 for the SAT and 26 for the ACT.

Yeah, most colleges now require you to at least have a 26 or 1050 ( i think that was it...) to even be conscidered for admission, so im guessing that meanst he average is higher now, but I am not for sure about that...

I don't know it sure seems to me that the kids now a days know less than they used to, and I just graduated 5 years ago.
