Hello there, I have a 2 year old reef tank, had my first acropora frag now for about 2 months and the last 3 weeks I have noticed this white tip and dots as if there branches starting to form! Just knowing I don't have a protein skimmer or sump/refugium, just makes me happy.

cool to see a skimmerless tank up!
That is definitely new growth! Calcium is depositing itself right there and branching out! Looks great dude!

Going to add anymore acroporas?

Yes! Hopefully soon! Haha I'm into a lot of corals, so I'm really happy with the fact sps like my tank, just sucks frags go for 30$ or more in my area.. Being only 18 holds me back a lot. Thanks for your feedback!

Nice start on growth! Age can definitely be a pain coming from a 19 year old reefer here but just keep working and saving! There are definitely cost issues for us young reefers but it helps to get to know people in your area who are willing to help out. Best of luck

Thanks bud, beautiful tank you have there.

That's pretty impressive! What equipment are you running in your tank?

Thanks! I'm running a FX6 with the original media included, with my addition of phosgaurd sitting with some activated carbon. 2x taotroniks Led fixtures off eBay!

That's a beautiful tank, I just started mine not quite 4 months ago and that's my end goal is something that looks like yours.

Tank looks awesome! I know what you mean about coral prices(coming from a 16 year old) but good luck with the sps! Glad to see a skimmer isn't necessary haha

We'll, thanks :D Honestly, don't let anything discourage you. I don't know how many times I sat there and literally just want to sell my tank for how much it ****es me off. DIP YOUR CORALS! If your corals aren't "opening up", Try to add 15lbs of live rock! You'll see them open the next day. My temps are at 84 degrees on a daily bases, so no temp does not matter, but FLUCTUATION does!
Provide plenty of flow to avoid any build up. I have to dose my tank everyday with part A and B :/ (no doser yet). When you "Think" you can't keep a coral because you think your tank is not good enough, we'll buy it anyways! You live and learn everyday with this hobby, and you won't learn till you try something out. Good luck, and thanks again.

Ha ha ha yeah, I'm noticing that there's a lot of... for lack of a better term "fear mongering" in this hobby. All the people saying if you don't spend thousands on a set up and quit your job to constantly watch your water quality you should just quit, it's kind of discouraging. But your story is inspiring and makes me happy that people beside marine biologists can keep a beautiful healthy aquarium!
