I have a branch of rock that I am going to put a sps on. it is about 5 inches from the surface of the water with lots of flow and I have current marine orbit pro LEDs. what would be a good sps be to put there? how fast would it grow? my nitrates are 40 right now but I am looking for protein skimmers and I will do another 15 gallon water change soon.

Get the nitrates as low as possible. 40 is even high for many soft corals.

That being said, it depends on what spa you want. I'd start with a monti cap if you can. Easiest and one of the fastest growers. Lots of light and stronger water is preferable, but they can adapt to just about anywhere in a tank. You will just have better color at those conditions.

Not as low as possible for nitrates, I would say around 5-15 with a functioning sump is when I have seen the best growth, but 15 is as high as I would go.
