Ok 55gal tank. 20 gal sump/refugium... refugium realistically will have approx. 10gal of water. Whats my best bet for species of Macroalgae and care for said algae.

I will eventually have a tang or two in the tank and believe i can harvest some macros for a food source... but i'm not set on doing this.

Thanks for the help in advance.

+1 on cheateo, calpura can cause problems
I light my fuge for 12hrs opposite my Dt, plenty of light for my macro and lighting opposite the main lights will help controll ph swings

Every now and again I rotate my live rock from the fuge and dt just to toss some pods in.
I also squeeze my algae every two weeks or so to help relase those pods into my Dt.

I believe in a low flow fuge but every now and again I open my drain line full blast to again toss some pods in my Dt. I also think its beneficial to skim after your fuge if you can. I lile the idea of the water going into the fuge before its cleaned or filtered.

Hope this helps

If you are interested in a food source for tangs, I suggest Gracilaria. I grow Gracilaria Parvispora in a tumble culture. It requires at leat 5W per gallon. It is also known as Tang Heaven Red. In Hawaiia, it is known as Red Ogo and is readily eaten by humans as a delicacy.
Laissez la bonne temps roulez,

Luke,
Good to bump into you.
Yes, Chaetomorphy is the easiest to grow. Since nobody eats it, you can composte tomatoes with it. I prefer something that I can use:
Red Ogo Chevechee.

PS. Call me. I will send you the recepie.

I would think a Yellow Tang would be good in a 55G set up. Even if it does get to big, move it to a bigger tank in a few years.

do a search for roberus tank of the month

its 55 gallons and is one of the nicest tanks in the world and he has a yellow tang.

i would think 4 feet would b sufficient
