First time keeper, needs advice

Ok, I've got a 40 that I'm setting up with a 12 sump. Its a glass tank and i have a mag2 for it. What all do I need to do to be prepared, I was going to do a 5in sandbed and do some rockwork/PVC piping.

I would really like a colorful smasher, which ones should I consider?

40+ glass tank u can have a peacock if its over 8mm of glass if its not that but like 6mm+ just dont **** it off lol. peacocks are great for new ppl to mantis shrimps and u can get at lots of LFS.

Well how many gallons are best for mantis?
Is an acrylic aquarium better then glass?
How deep should the sandbed be > 4''?
How much is enough water movement?

for a peacock acrylic is better but glass over 40+ is ok i think. peacocks can get up to 7'' I say a 20gal min but some ppl use 10gal. A 4'' sand bed is alot maybe more like 3'' as for water movement not to much but not none just some to keep the water moving one small powerhead will work.
