First Time Saltwater LR LF setup

^ Thanks Daniel :)

My wife loves the colour, it's an espresso coloured stain with a hint of red in it under certain lights.

It's always nice to see a design actually built, deviation from the original plans is minimal.

UPDATE TIME:

Dry coral rocks and chemicals arrived! My buddy came over so we started playing with combinations. Here is the final result. Used a nice 1" live sand bed as well, we have about 30lbs of rock and 20lbs of sand in now. This rock is very porous and has some nice ledges for corals in the near future. I wanted a cave and some tunnels incorporated but I didn't want it to be too high, gives the swimmers room to move above and around the rock.

And this morning after the water had a chance to warm up and balance to match the sump water.

Here is a completed picture after I turned on the circulation system. I'm getting some really good flow and water movement up top with it slowing down in the bottom of the tank.

Ohh and just a teaser, picked out my clownfish, LFS breeds them, he told me to pick and he'll hold them till the tank is ready this week.

Also dosed in some purple up, stability, and prime into the system.

Almost there!

Checked the levels again last night, everything is perfect!

Levels:
pH: 8.4
ammonia: 0
nitrites: 0
nitrates: 0
calcium: 680ppm (little high but tolerable)
salinity: 1.0245
temp: 80F

This is the 4th day of testing straight, picking up my clownfish tonight :D

Haven't updated this thread in awhile, but the clowns are in and loving it! I also picked up a torch, and frogspawn LPS they are also loving the tank!

I also setup a 10gallon quarantine tank, planning on quarantining a few fish in the next couple of weeks.

I took a video of the entire setup I'll post it when it finishes uploading to YouTube.

Your setup looks great. my only comments are have you thought about putting a check valve into your return line and possibly a SCWD to get a wave action between the two returns?

Why would I need a check valve in my return line? The sump handles power outages no problem.

The SCWD isn't a bad idea at all, I want the returns to be constant with my power heads creating any waves

And thanks :) it was a ton of work to get up and running.

Hey Guy! If you do things right, and be patient you get stuff like this. Something to shoot for. Daniel :wildone:
