first time seeing a clam pumping

this weekend i had a redo on my sump, i had to turn off my main pump and use a power head for 12 hours in the main tank. i didn't look where i placed the maxi 1200 since i just threw it on the rock when i was on the back of the tank. after 12 hours i looked up and saw may dragonette goby with just his head sticking out of the inlet of the powerhead! i tunred off the pump thinking the goby was a gonner but he just swam out and went to picking at pods like normal, kinda weird but then i noticed the powerhead had covered my 3 croceas with sand. i pulled them out and hoped for the best since they were filled with sand. next day i noticed the 4 inch deep sand bed was gone infront of the clams all the way down to the glass. i watched the clams and they were pumping massive amount of water every few minutes to clear them themselves, i have never seen them be able to move that much water at once. i guess the old saying of clam can't rid themselves of sand is kinda a myth. my engineering goby is now in awe of how much sand a clam can move

they use that pumping to remove contaminants and to move. my larger clams ( gigas and large maxima ) can actually shoot a good amount of water well over a foot in the air. i found this out the hard way when i was inspecting them, i got soaked a couple of times

they have pretty good aim too. i got my face blasted at least 10 times, no joke
