Fish choices for a sps only tank

I just built two new systems to take the place of 3 that i had running. The first is a 225 lps/softy tank that i originally intended on making a predator tank.

Anyways, i decided NOT to make my 225 lps/softy tank a predator tanklike i had planned. I sealed the deal yesterday morning by putting my 2 1/2" clown, my 4" lawnmower and my 3 inch sixline in the 225. They are in their new home permanently. The sixline and the LMB were originally going to be the only inhabitants in my bb sps 90.

SO............... now that the 225 is over stocked with almost ten inches of fish.......what should i put in the bb sps 90?????

(im obviously NOT into the fish so much)

Anyways, looking for ideas on the most FUNCTIONAL and cool fish to put in this BB 90 gallon sps only system. My rock has cooked for 12 weeks and i have 5500 gph of flow running on a OM 8 way.

I only offer that as algae eaters are not so mcuh necessary......

The most fish i will put in here are two small ones maybe even only 1 for the right fish. Looking for whats best for my stonies.

I have some ideas already, but just thought i would see what you all have to say.

sorry for the novel...but i am a picky b^%^&rd ;)
thanks

Magnificent Foxface... Will eat prepared foods ,, but also keep any algea you missed in check.. turf , bryo, HA . Pair of Rainfordi's Goby's .. would be the Pair if I had to choose one pair..

Maybe a pair of Fridmani's .Would be my second choice. but make sure you get a Male and a Female if you do,,LOL

I saw a tank about a week ago that was all SPS and only had a pair of blueline triggers.. that was it..

Apogon cyanosoma

They aren't mean, don't get big, and they always eat all their food and wont harrass your corals in any way.
Rainford gobies rock too.

*not my picture.

IMHO what's best for your stonies would be a lot more than 1 or 2 fish in the 90. With it being BB and with that awesome flow you'll have awfully hungry SPS with such a minimal bioload. Learn to love fish too :lol2:

I agree!

hmmmmmm

Thanks for the input.............

any more fish type suggestions from PUG and 143gadgets?????

I wouldn't keep Rainfordi's in a bare-bottom tank. My Rainfordi spent 90% of its waking life sifting critters out of the sandbed. Scott Michael recommends keeping them in a tank with filamentous algae which wouldn't (hopefully) be abundant in an SPS tank.

I have come to the conclusion that green and/or red filamentous algae is almost essential to keep most individuals.

My current 120g SPS Dominant has 3 tangs, a Purple-Yellow and Sailfin....1 watchman goby (4yrs old this month), 1 six-line wrasse, 3-grn/blue chromis and 1 red-tailed scotter blenny, 9 fish total
............seems to be enough to keep everyone moving as there are always fish swimming from top to bottom then......HTH.

Here is my fish list:

75g BB SPS

Livestock:

1. False Percs (2)
2. Yellow Tang
3. Blue-Eyed Anthias Female (3)
4. Lyretail Anthias Male
5. Solar Wrasse
6. Algae Blenny
7. Hawian Flame Wrasse Male
8. Hawian Flame Wrasse Female

Good luck!

I'll be the third to vote yes for this one.

I was like yourself...in it for the SPS and not so much the fish. But 8 months with high-flow, few fish, and minimal feeding has tought me one thing: I'm starving my SPS.

With a proper BB tank you really need to add lots of fish and feed them alot on a daily basis to generate enough nutrients in the tank for your SPS. A BB tank needs much more put into than you may think food wise to keep everything happy.

As for fish...I'd suggest at least one tang (they are great polluters) as well as a school of Anthias. Feed frozen food once a day and supplement with some dry food fed daily by auto-feeder. Unless you skimped on flow or your skimmer your tank will love this.

thanks everybody.......

ive changed my thinking some, i have this same conversation going on at another site as well.

Im leaning towards a wrasse tank, there are so many beneficial ones........
and that would be kind of a cool theme tank........

My flow and skimmer is as good as it gets IMO. 5500 gph through a OM 8-way and a euroreef skimmer. Invisible rock lifts and spraybars.....coast to coast overflow........

thanks again guys...howabout some other wrasse ideas.....

check out my build.....

That has to be to most insane plumbing job ive ever seen.. My only concern would be those 2 lower bulkheads taking the back pressure from the weight of the rest of the water in the tank..Are those spray bars going to be able to handle that much WF?

I think im seeing two 1 1/2 inch bulkheads bulkheads joined at a tee. What are you using for a return pump?

Love the pegs stands to,, Great Idea...Looks like you drilled the Starboard and just cut them off and fed them into it... I hope they dont go all the way through the starboard.. could create some stress points on the bottom acrylic...

All this on a 90 gallon.. I might rethink that 5500 gallon closed loop .... That 8 way will have 2 ports opened at all times right?

keep it up man. looking forward to seeing this puppy jammin

I have a 90gg BB:

current bioload (UNTESTED LONG-TERM; ANTHIAS ARE NEW ADDITIONS):

1 purple tang
1 doliatus/virgatus hybrid rabbitfish
2 blue/green chromis
1 large cinnamon clown
1 (almost) baby cinnamon clown
1 sixline wrasse
1 bicolor blenny (in sump)
3 bartlett anthias

Nuclear,
Ive got the spraybars matched flowwise to the other ports through some trial and error experiments. Im running a barracuda on the cls and i have custom drums with 3 open every 120 degrees. My thinking on this is that that way my spray bars are never taking more than 1/3 my flow. I just built a 225 lps/ softy tank with the same concept a cou0ple of months ago. Ill attach a pic of it as well.

The return pump is a mag 18 but im robbing water from it for my chiller and a canister filter...............I run phosban always even though i cant measure any phosphates and every once in a while ill throw some carbon int here.....

All of my stonies are in the big tankat the moment as i just broke down my other BB stony tank so i could build this one in its place......rock is cooking of course.....

The holes do not go all the way through the starboard.... ; ), there are pretty good teeth in those acrylci rods too. They are a dream to stack on.......Ive built a bunch of these invisible rock lifts for people, but usually i build a acrylic grid to hold the rods...this was my first barebottom invisible rock lift.
ive got the same amount of flow going through this 225. There are zero dead spots...i can throw a feather in there and watch it go under, aroiund and through my rocks before finally making it to the overflow after a few minutes....im pretty pleased with it
in the video i dropped the water level and aimed all 6 of the top omniflex nozzles forward so the flow can be seen.......

Thanks for the compliments.....

ill say this...it was a WAY easier plumbing job on the 225......

what do you think??? Anything incompatible there with a BB or with each other??. I think that will make for a SWEET color combination as well as a theme for a loaded sps system........

Incompatible:

1. Six line wrasse
2. Lime green wrasse
3. Canary wrasse
4. Clown fairy wrasse
6. ???im thinking possibly a flame wrasse...for some PINK

But if you have valid input specifically, im all ears
