Fish committed suicide :(

Sad to say when I arrived home today I found my favorite fish my black and white misbar clown had jumped out. Anyone know if there are any locally. I know fish pros doesn't have them was there today.

First sorry for your loss. It's always a bummer to loose a fish that way.

I don't know why marine fish jump. It doesn't make sense as a natural behavior since most would have to leave the protection of the reef to reach the surface.

I don't agree w/ Bob. I think all fish are capable of jumping. Some, like dart fish and wrasses are olympic champs at carpet surfing. This is the second case of a clown jumping that I know about.

I always keep tanks covered. Egg crate if the fish are big enough and light is not an issue. Otherwise the netting from BRS makes a good barrier with little loss of light.

Ya that's my next step is a cover I'll probably go the BRS route. I checked live aquaria last night there out of black and white clowns darn it. Sucks they just layed eggs too about 4 days ago for the first time. And I have no extra tanks to try and hatch them.

I sadly had a real small clown jump out once, I found it when I felt a squoosh looking for it in the tank :( Sorry for your loss.

EEEEEWWWWWW.

I've always feared stepping on a fish that had just jumped out!

John - no need to worry about the fish that has just jumped out....its the one that's been there for 2-3 days that's dry on the outside, yet fermented and liquid on the inside.

THAT'S the one that should strike terror deep in your soul

I have a black Ocelaris that I want to get rid of. If you want it and I can catch it I'll bring it to the meeting.

Sorry for your loss. Fragtastic Reef sells the netting by the square foot, save you a few bucks by making it the size you want. I bought some recently with my skimmer for our new setup just need to figure out how I'm going to make the top since we have a bow front tank.
