Fish Dying one at a time

Jo Jo and Aqua workz lost all of their fish within this week. The employee at Jo Jo told me that youreef they all have the same supplier from bay area.
Guess what, Jimmy told me that they use the same supplier from the bay area, Logic somthing is what it called.

YR has not used that supplier for over 6 months. Plus YR gets fish from over 10 different Wholesalers a month and hand picks most fish to ensure things like this don't happen. Who ever told you that was full of you know what.

What is that exactly John?

^ my thought exactly Paul! I think that is the first time i've actually seen a post from John.:strooper:

Oops, Sorry. Some things just get to me.
As an example YR will have fish from 3 different wholesales by Wednesday. None of them from Nor Cal.

See, this is why posting speculation and "gossip" as I called it is dangerous. I wonder how much in sales has cost the stores in this thread because of that statement. There are a lot of reasons why they could have lost the shipment, if they did, or how much, who did it, if it was a plot, and their motives, maybe the FBI, maybe the CIA, maybe the Mob, maybe the Yakuza, maybe a rouge terrorist cell breaking into new territory, it a conspiracy I tell you!!!!!!!

Moving on......

I am going to bet the odds are that something you are doing, or have done is what is causing this. Our job is to figure that out so you can correct it. This is a VERY technical hobby and you WILL break a LOT of eggs before you make a good omlet. Heck, even then your going to get egg on your face. Because of one screw-up I had recently I have lost over $300+ in SPS coral.

Loosing stuff is the nature of the hobby and we need to be conscientious aquarists and not ignore the fact it may be something WE are doing and are to blame, as it is most of the time. If you learn from these mistakes, then it is not in vain.

Most livestock is stressed when it comes in, some die from the stress days later. If you buy a fish that is stressed, it could die. If you buy too aggressive of a fish, it could freak out the rest of the tank. They could have a parasite, didn't acclimate them well enough, or you just have had a run of bad luck like me. For a while there, every fish I bought was dying.....

With that said,

1. Buy some test kits.....good ones..... and learn to test your own water. (You will never make it in the hobby if you don't learn how to test and trust the results you get) If you have some already, list the results here so we can see what is going on. Because you havn't given us any information yet to determine the cause and offer a solution.

2. Describe you tank and equipment, pictures work as well.

3. List your livestock: fish, inverts, corals, etc....

4. Water source

5. List everything you put into the water from the salt all the way to the food, including all supplements and medications you have ever used.

6. Your WC schedule (be honest)

Good points Dots. In addition, please please invest in a QT system. It really isn't hard and will greatly reduce the odds of sudden crashes or introducing pests into your display. There are lots of articles out there on the subject.
I lost all the fish in my tank once after a series of events that boiled down to not using QT. Absolutely anything wet, no matter whose tank it comes from goes into QT for 4 weeks before it goes into my display tank.

Our QT is an el cheapo $10 wal-mart mini tank that takes the 'aged' water from the routine water changes from the show-room getup. Garage-sale water heater. Couple hunks of aesthetically challenged LR. Beater power head. Blammo! QT 'on hit'.

Was using a 5g bucket before that...

they didnt tell me they just said everything looked good then I took a sample to your reef and he said it was fine. Brandon at your reef told me it was because I dont have a heater.

as a older member of mars,i feel that new members sometimes need a little help, that why we are here,as older members,i think that sometimes people act without thinking first !,i dont think that they were trying to name anyone as fault,it just came out that way,we all learn new things every day!so lets all just move on and be friends,ha ha,this fridays meeting would be good for all new bees,so advise, attend,to all ,thanks for looking, mikid:rollface:

I just wanted to say that I didnt say anything bad about any of the stores someone asked me where I got my fish and I answered them. I dont think that any of the stores that I bought my fish from r at fault. 3 of them were bought from 3 different stores over 3 weeks ago. So I just wanted to let everyone know that.

Thanks
