Fish feeding issue

Hey guys, so I got my first fish, a alleni damsel or neon-blue damsel and he's alone in my new 29 bio cube tank. The problem is when I add pellet food is gets sucked right in the filter. If I turn off filter my wave maker gets exposed and starts churning water. So I've turned them both off so he can feed. Is it ok to leave these off for extended periods till the fish eats? Should I try a different food that doesn't float?

Is the fish being picky? If so take a cube of mysis or brine and mix it in a little tank water. I use a turkey baster and suck that mixture up and put a little in each area my fish hang out. I only do this once a week but it really helped me get a angle to start eating. He now gets it up as soon as its in the water

i'd try some frozen mysis. when i feed it, i suck it up into a small syringe (minus the needle, of course) and i squeeze a little out at a time. all of my fish come up and suck it out like a baby with a bottle. i do the same thing with arctipods and ROE (both bottled foods).

Well what I did was turned the pump and wavemaker off calming the water enough to allow the pellet food to rest at the top. Once I did this the fish came up and ate it so I guess Ill have to do this every time I feed it :(

have some movement in the water or fish wont generally be attracted to dead falling pallets. Leaving the water flow off for extended time is not ideal but for fish to eat all you need is 3 min of true eating time which turns out to be about 5-7 min total.

If I don't turn off the flow the pellets float right into the filter

I sprinkle some pellets in my left hand, stick a finger from my right hand into the tank to get it wet, pick up the pellets with the wet finger and dab them into the tank, sinking them.
The fish very quickly caught on to the finger going in the tank and them getting food.
They don't let them hit the bottom.
Works with flakes too.
i leave everything on so the food gets blown around, the fish will grab it if they really want it.

Mysis and LRF gets poured into the tank after being mixed with a bit of tank water (washed first in RO).

I like it that sticking a finger in the tanks attracts "all" the fish.

I turn off my return pump and wavemaker and leave one powerhead running. You need some movement or they are not attracted to the food. If you are still having trouble try feeding mysis shrimp and adding garlic
