Fish Food recipe anyone?

My dog ate my basball sized chunk of frozen mysis shrimp ...believe it or not. Right off my kitchen counter, and her a$$ stunk!

Ok so now I know there is at least 1 or 2 good fish food recipes out there. I was wondering if anyone was interested in making a batch to split. If everyone involved bout a few items each we could have a good mix to feed out tanks.

Post in the thread if interested. Im not sure if this is something we can do at the next meeting or not. But we should be able to work something out.

Lemme know!

I have some killer recipes, and some special ingredients to throw in such as some golden pearls, spirulina powder, and some other stuff. Can put in some cyclopeeze as well. Would help to have a decent amount of mysis shrimp though- these I am still looking to split a block with someone for an order to Jehmco.

My ingredients are roughly ( and it varies to some degree on amounts every time)-
couple sheets of NORI
some sort of fresh fish- meat and guts- not a fatty fish though.
mussels
frozen oysters from oriental market
clams
Squid- again usually from an oriental market
whole shrimp
frozen mysis
spirulina powder
golden pearls- 3 sizes
Fish eggs when I can find them at an oriental market (the orange kind used for sushi)
some amount of flake food- try not to use too much
couple squirts of selcon, garlic, and vitamins
shake of cayanne pepper

for liquid, I like to try to use phytoplankton (dense fresh home brew), or as little salt water as possible.
It should come out very thick.
Ladel into ziplocks and lay flat in the freeze with papertowels in between.

Mix all up in a big bowl reserving some of the meaties that you will hand chop to a small enough size for the fishes.
Blend away- starting with some, and adding as you go along so that you end up with various sizes of particles.
I personally think putting gelatin in the mix is BS, and just a filler used by the commercial companies,

1 blender full of food is a lot of food.

I chop and blend to varying degrees so that there are still chunks in it for the fish.

Working with frozen seafood is not bad for some types like oysters and squid. Little less messy.

This is a real messy stinky job- wear rubber gloves if you have them. I have a dedicated blender- I would lose my head if I used the kitchen one. My wife usually vacates the house for a couple hours when I'm making it. I need to make a batch myself, but am committed this weekend, and may head off backpacking the following. feed a little of the stuff from the blender to the tank and watch the fish go zonkers.
Somewhere in the old coral forum are Eric's basic recipe from which all others deviate to some degree or another.

how many of the above items do you have on hand? I have cycopeeze, some silversides, frozen clams from cape cod :) Also have some nori and kent garlic extreme.

Im not able to do this till possiblely the 14th of october

I'd like to jump in on some too.

I can contribute (currently on hand):

1- large block of mysis (my fish never really cared for this "brand", but in a mix, it may be good)
2- large block cyclopeez (both from the Jehmco order way back when)
3- couple types formula flake
4- Formula 2
5- lots of nori
6- Selcon!

Can get other stuff as well.

That would work perfect for me. Or even later. Earlier may be difficult. I can supply all the disposable gloves we need.

That weekend might work for me- depends on what weather is looking like.... If it's nice out, I'm heading out backpacking- if it is a typical weekend (rainy) then I'm all for it, and am willing to have folks over to do it at my place.

I have the spirulina powder, golden pearls, and an assortment of other stuff. Also have an oriental market nearby that I can grab other stuff from.

I want in !

I've got some frozen forumla 1 and 2, I also have frozen squid and blood worms I can throw in :D

So far the following ppl want in on the food making...
Jallard, TA, MichaelG and KrazyK

Below is a list of ingredients. If you plan to supply some of the items please reply in the thread by copying the list of ingredients and adding your name beside the item you have to offer.

Because Michaelg is pretty busy he wont be able to help but will supply what he has and his blender. We will just divide the contents between all of us. Seems fair?
