I was thinking a royal gramma, clownfish, and something else.
but not sure what.
Firefish maybe? I had one for about 6 years and he just hung out at the bottom of the tank. pretty boring but colorful.

also, 4 nassarius snails, 3 blue leg hermits, 4 margarita snails and a skunk cleaner shrimp.

Is there another interesting invert that would help keep the sand clean?
fighting conch maybe?

thanks, It's been a while since i stocked a tank.

Skip the mandarin on a 20 gallon tank, not enough natural food for them.
I'd also skip a clown in that size tank unless it's the only fish. As it gets older and larger it will get very territorial and 20 gallons won't be enough for it and another fish (according to the clown, anyway).
A blenny would be good, or a clown goby. Either of those should work with a firefish.
Here are some other nano fish.
If you get a firefish, you'll need the tank covered.
Fighting conch would be great for the sand.

ended up with the clown a fire fish and gramma. all of them were very small. much smaller than i remember buying fish. but that was years ago.
also picked up the conch and some blue leg hermits.
I still need to get the shrimp and a few more snails and that should do.
