Fish for frag tank

Hey Y'all!

Working on my frag tank. Its a 20L with egg crate on the bottom, a penguin 350 HOB filter (no floss, just holding live rocks and carbon). 6 corals right now, pulsing xenia, frogspawn, flowerpot, mushroom, silver xenia (recovering from cyano attack in another tank), and GSP. Plan to keep mainly softies, and LPS, maybe a few easy SPS. Also, just want a fish so that it adds nutrients to the water; eating algae and pests would be a bonus. Any thoughts?

There are very few fish that would be happy in such a small tank..

I'd look for one of the algae eating blennies, ie lawnmower blenny. It'll perch on frags from time to time but the benefit of having something that is constantly scraping off film algae would be great in a frag tank.

Lawnmower blenny would be my choice.

Lawnmower blennies get a bit big for a 20L, and need significant amounts of algae to survive (i.e. would need to feed it supplemental algae) - I would consider a smaller tailspot blenny possibly...

That was my concern with a lawnmower. My hope is that there will not be a large algae source, but it would be nice to have it cleaned up should it appear.

Tailspot blenny looks like a good option.

Any more ideas?

Dont they require a fine sand bottom? My frag tank is BB with egg crate.

Thoughts on a sixline?

Maybe I should focus on just getting a fish in there to poop and feed corals, if I dip the corals well, and keep up on WCs, there shouldnt be any or much food sources anyway.

Mine never touched the substrate, he was always sitting on mushrooms.

My mistake, he was a Clown Goby, not a watchman... I'm not firing on all 8 cylinders this morning! He ate Reef Frenzy and loved it.

What about a 6-line? they don't really need very big tanks and will pick off any pests that you may get in there.

Fish for frag tank

A clown goby would be great. We have one in our DT, never have seen him on the substrate, only on the rocks and corals. At first the SPS were bothered by him and some bleached where he always hung out. I think now that our system is more established, the corals have grown prone to it, they don't bleach at all from him anymore. I don't suggest a Mating pair. I believe they lay their eggs in the SPS, bothering the heck out of them.

We have kept a 6 line in our frag tank. We have had one jump though in the past, we don't keep our frag tank covered.

I just moved a pair of clowns to our frag tank because I'm sick of them breeding in the DT and being so territorial.
