Fish Help

I came home from dinner toady and looked in my tank like always.

Today I found my fox face stuck to my Power head. I looked at him and he did not look like he was breathing and thought he was a goner.

I turned off my power head and he started to swim around. One eye is bulging out and you can see stripes where he was pressed up against the power head.

I do not have a hospital tank or QT tank so I took one of my 2 1/2 gallon buckets and filled it with fresh salt water and got him out of the tank ASAP. I put a air hose with a an air stone in the bucket.

What can I do for him to give him the best shot at life?

thanks
Mike

Sorry to hear about that. The eye swelling could be Popeye and should be watched carefully for secondary bacterial infections. Like asbauto said your best bet would be to quarantine and try and give most stress free environment you can. What you need to determine is how he got stuck there? He was obviously weak enough to be unable to swim out from the pull of powerhead. Hope he is better!

well he made it through the night in the 2 gallon bucket with an air stone, now lets hope he can make it through the day while I am at work, his eye look back to normal, it looks like it was bulging from how he was laying on the power head in that i might have been sucking it out.

I am going to be setting up a 5 gallon hex tank to keep him in for a while, I need to get some medicine for him to prevent any infection.

Watch ammonia very close since you don't have a cycled QT. You will probably be doing large water changes daily to keep in check or somewhat low. Give FAOIS a call and get correct "meds". I use Copper and Prazipro but if I can, i do Prazipro first then Copper, depends on fish and where you got them for sure (some LFS don't treat, some do). I wish I did a 20 gallon QT, but I had a 10g setting around.

If you struggle with Ammonia, let me know and you can bring over to my 10 gallon, not the biggest, but it is cycled and empty at the moment (I feed it daily to keep filter going).

Sorry to hear that. Hope he pulls through. Can I ask about the power head.. was it setup to turn off and on, or is it always on? If it's always on did u have a power outage when u where at dinner?

Well he did not make it through the second night.

I went to FAOIS and got some FURAN-2 and set up the 5g tank with DT water as per their suggestion.

it looks as if this guy was not getting enough to eat, as he was quite skinny, and all my other fish are fat and plump.

Now I know I am going to be setting up a proper QT tank in the corner of one of my rooms so I can be ready in case this ever happens again, I hope it dose not but you never know.

Roger the Power had is a Maxi-Jet 1200 in flow mode. that is always on, it also did not appear that we had a power outage while we were gone.

Sorry to hear but sounds like you might have a bully that was not letting him eat. Might keep a watch during feeding just in case
