Fish ID: cirrhilabrus

Hey folks,

This little bugger ostensibly hails from SA and was sold to me as a "I have no bleeping idea what this is nor did the collector in SA" fish. We specifically asked if it were KwaZulu and he said "no".

Now that said, the fish's coloration under no stress very bright red with the stripes on the face royal blue. The jaw lower is golden yellow and belly basically white. This is a changeling female for sure, as the black spot was still visible on the tail when I bought her three weeks ago.

Let me know if anyone knows.

Thanks, C

Yeah, it's one of those "close but no cigar" deals. Colors are much brighter when not stressed and it's then that it does not look like KwaZulu. It may just be a non-described one... you never know.

Looks like a juvenile to me. Size? NOT KwaZulu, however. I cannot even provide a WAG on this one.

I know it is one of the badest photos her is s stressed Kwazulu (that has been colected in Kwazulu Natal South Africa )

I'm stumped on this one too. Agree on a juvi, and it's similar to a KwaZulu... But not.

I really don't know.

Might be a juvenile or female Kwazulu as most of the rubriventralis complex fairy, have green/blue/purple stripes as juvenile and female..
